Just got word of even MORE city work tomorrow …

Just a couple hours after the announcement (see below) of SDOT work at California/Othello tomorrow, we just got another alert from the city — regarding work on the Admiral medians (December photo above) tomorrow, and beyond, including a request for input on the median trees when work crews return a week later:

Here’s the full text of the new city e-mail alert:

SW Admiral Way: Irrigation System to be Added to Medians

Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) completed replanting trees in December 2007 and is now ready to complete the installation of irrigation
and groundcover planting in the four medians along SW Admiral Way between
39th Avenue SW and SW Olga Street.

Irrigation is scheduled to go in this Saturday, February 2, 2008.

The following Saturday, February 9th, and possibly the day before, Friday, February 8th, SDOT crews will install the ground cover planting. This is the same weekend that the Admiral Neighborhood Association is sponsoring a
neighborhood cleanup event.

Traffic control will be needed for SDOT crews to install the irrigation system and ground cover. Residents should expect some lane closures to accommodate the work. However, at least one lane will remain open for traffic in each direction at all times.

SDOT will also supplement the 14 trees already installed in the medians with
an additional eight trees to be planted along the corridor planting strips, some time in the month of February or March. SDOT plans to use the February
9th community event as an opportunity to receive input on placement of the
additional trees.

While SDOT revised the original tree layout before installation and increased the number of traffic markings in response to community concerns about traffic safety, SDOT will continue to monitor traffic operations in the coming months. Should there be a need to adjust the location of a tree or two in the medians to meet traffic safety standards, we will undertake any such work in the Spring.

For more information, contact George Frost, SDOT, Public Outreach Coordinator, at george.frost@seattle.gov or (206) 615-0786.

We will be checking with him regarding exactly how input will be collected on 2/9 — by the way, the Admiral Neighborhood Association cleanup mentioned for that date is one of a PHENOMENAL number of events happening that day (including a JuNO cleanup around The Junction, plus the caucuses in the afternoon, and a bicycle-donation event at PCC) — we’ll spotlight them all in the next week but in the short run, check the WSB Events page for links to more details.
