Two things, actually. First is that we actually got a coyote PICTURE for the first time after all these coyote reports. Thanks to JF for sending the photo taken this week of his neighborhood’s “resident coyote.” Second thing, the Discovery Park coyote just got a reprieve. According to this article, instead of trapping/killing the coyote, authorities will work on educating the public to co-exist with wildlife.

JF, that is one BEAUTIFUL animal. They are truly gorgeous creatures. I don’t get to her them yipping down in the South Delridge area, which is too bad. It’s a hauntingly beautiful sound.
The education aspect is great, and not a knee jerk reaction for a change, I wonder what will happen though if we start to see “Fifi”, or “Muffin”, start to become coyote chow..?

John…adults need to be adults, and be responsible with their pets. Don’t let your pets roam free by themselves. Keep them on a leash when you walk your dogs. It’s as simple as that. Then “Fifi” and “Muffin” have a greater chance at a longer life span.
We have been wondering why all the Belvidere neighborhood dogs have been so lively late in the evening, espeically our dogs. I personally think it is kind of cool to have it behind our house. My wife, on the other hand, begs to differ…
Glad the coyote isn’t going to be offed; that was infinitely idiotic solution. But for the safety of the animal, pets and, yeah, even people, trap it and move it to a more remote location.
Way I see it West Seattle has way too many dogs as it is. If some of these coyotes should decide to cull the smallest and yippiest of the herd, I reckon it wouldn’t be any skin off my nose.
WOW! What a great picture. That is a beautiful animal. I am also extremely glad to hear that education on the Magnolia coyote has won out over killing or trapping it.
Well..the coyotes will certainly cull the feral cat population. I’m glad this is turning out the way it is, especially the Discovery Park outcome.

Beautiful animal! Doesn’t in anyway look like the scrawny ones we used to shoot back on the farm in Kansas. This puppy looks well fed with a healthy coat. “Fifi” or “Muffin” in there? I also remember as the Port Orchard are became more and more developed of the frantic reports of bear in backyards. We’re actually in THEIR backyard. Co-existance is the way. “Can’t we all just get along?”
When I lived in LA back in the day, there were lots of coyotes running around the Silverlake/Los Feliz hills. All was fine until this couple left their dog out and it got taken by a coyote. They went to all the local media declaring war on what they termed “urban terrorists.” Only in LA? I guess we can wait and see…

LOL Aidan. My cousin has a couple little yappers who might be very attractive to Wily Coyote. Any chance he could visit Edmonds for a day? Or next time she comes to Thanksgiving dinner (setting up special little plates for them right next to her chair), I will suggest letting the little darlings outside to explore West Seattle.

Ace, you must be under 40. Or maybe just not a cartoon fan. Wile E. Coyote was always scheming to catch the RoadRunner in the ollllld cartoons by dropping an anvil on RR, blowing it up, etc.
An Anvil from the Acme supply company….. and Acme roller skates, Acme Rockets….
I’ve seen coyotes twice at Lincoln Park now! The last time was on Tuesday and I saw a pair of, what seemed to be, young ones. I met a warden there and he confirmed that they had been reported. They were gorgeous and I got to watch them for a while as they stood and watched me approach. The warden confirmed that we should be careful about our pets …….
I loved my brush with nature and as a Brit it was a real treat to see some genuine American wildlife.
Yay on all counts, and it is nice to see others here hold the same views on this subject. LOL @ the anvil. My cat stays inside – I’ll rig up a hole with a giant rock on a pulley over it in the front yard, just in case. ;)

I think JimmyG was referencing a popular 90s catch phrase and wasn’t ACTUALLY concerned about babies getting eaten. But maybe “Dude” is really Lindy Chamberlain, the woman whose baby was eaten by a dingo. In which case, Ms. Chamberlain, my sincere condolences.
My (fixed) 15 year old cat roams where he pleases. He was raised with 6 pitbull puppies and he keeps my three big dogs in line.
The coyote that eats him will have scars to show for it.
I finally saw Discovery Park Coyote last night. He came jogging down Gilman in Magnolia and crossed over the W. Emerson Street Bridge. He crossed through a gas station parking lot, a bank parking lot and finally lost me somewhere in Fisherman’s Terminal. Around 11:15pm….
