Have you seen Seth? West Seattle Nursery “shop cat” vanishes

That’s one of the photos we featured last March with our first in a series of “West Seattle shop cat” stories – that’s Seth from West Seattle Nursery, and we’re not exaggerating when we speculate that thousands of West Seattleites have met him. Galen Guffy from WSN has just sent word that Seth is missing, and asks folks to be on the lookout for him:

Our beloved nursery cat is missing. His name is Seth and he is a huge black, brown and grey tabby cat about 18 lbs and approximately 7 years old.

The last time we saw him was December 20 at about 6 pm. He didn’t come in when we closed, even though we called and called, and he wasn’t here waiting for us when we opened. This is highly unusual as he is always here in the morning waiting to be let in if he stayed out the night before or begging for his breakfast from the opening staff. In all the years we’ve had him he’s never ventured more than a couple blocks away from the nursery. We spent the morning combing our neighborhood looking for him and calling animal control to see if anyone has brought him in.

We are really worried about him and would appreciate it if you could let your readers know and ask them to contact us if they’ve seen him. We would be so very grateful.

The nursery’s number is 206-935-9276. Seth will also be on the WSB Pets page shortly.

Here’s hoping Seth is found safe and sound. He’s one of my favorite things about the store. : (

Sending positive thoughts Seth’s way…and also to everyone at West Seattle Nursery.

Any neighbors reading the report should open their garages and just make sure they didn’t accidently shut in a hiding “Seth.” My devoted cat, Melody, was missing for an entire week and then she just magically appeared on my doorstep. I suspect she was stuck in someone’s garage.

    Here’s to a safe return!

Does he have a collar – if so, can you describe? Thought I saw a cat fitting this description on 42 Ave – directly east of the nursery. I have a tabby that looks like a miniature version of Seth – so I notice other kitties that look like mine.

Thanks everyone for keeping Seth in your thoughts. We really appreciate it. Seth has had many collars over the years. He always manages to “lose” them. He “lost” his most recent one a while back.

Hopefully he’ll come home soon and when does he is getting chipped! Thanks again everyone. Happy Holidays.

I just about lost my mind when we had an issue with one of our shop cats getting “lost”. She was hiding in the back room in a box of clothes. I can’t even think of how your day went today without your buddy. I hope he is waiting in the morning for you!

Praying Seth returns as usual in the morning for breakfast!

I saw a cat running around near Spud last night that fits this description, similar collar with a tag. I’ll keep an eye out if I see him again.

I am so sad I love Seth and have gotten to talk and pet him a lot. My visits are special with him there – I can’t imagine how the staff is feeling. I always remember at times like these ‘nothing is lost in they eyes of God.’ We will ask for his safe return.

    KellyM,
You read the photo but not the text.

    Galen,
That is a beautifully worded, excuse for not having a collar on Seth.
    And irresponsible.
    Why chip him now?

It’s possible he climbed into someone’s car and they drove off, not knowing he was exploring. If he is in a new ‘neighborhood’he’ll be disoriented. If you see a new cat in your neighbor that looks like Seth, please contact me. I have humane traps…we can set up a feeding schedule and invite him into the ‘collection device’. I hope Seth is okay! He’s a special cat that is one of a kind. As all cats are. Keeping him in my thoughts.

Prayers answered! Seth is back! Turns out he was locked in the basement next door for about a day and a half. They heard miowing, let him out and he came running back! Such joy! Such relief!
We took over to the vet next door and had him chipped toot sweet.

Anyway, we want to thank the West Seattle Blog and all of you readers for posting this and keeping your eyes open and looking for our boy. All of you blog staff and readers/writers make us feel like we are part of a genuine and caring community that looks out for one another. So rare and so real these days. This is the best Christmas we’ve had in a long time.

Glad Solstice Tidings to all of you!
