WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Gunfire investigation on SW Roxbury

10:06 PM: Police are investigating gunfire at 27th/Roxbury. No one injured, but they’ve found at least two casings “in the intersection.” The person who says they saw it happen described the shooter as an “unknown-race male, 20s,” with a backpack and a handgun, on foot when he fired the gun, then walking north.

ADDED 11:36 AM TUESDAY: Here’s SPD’s summary of the incident:

At 2140 hours, a man on foot in the area of 27 Av SW and SW Roxbury St fired two shots from a handgun toward a woman who honked her horn at him for walking into traffic. Nobody was injured. The suspect fled the area on foot prior to the arrival of officers, as seen later on surveillance footage. Spent rounds of ammunition were recovered at the scene. The area was contained and K-9 responded, but the suspect could not be located.

what the heck goes on here?? It’s extremely alarming at how many shootings happen on this very block. why does this not raise an eyebrow?!

Police found at least 2 casings. The frequent gunfire is getting crazier by the week.  Just tragic with all the gunfire.

It’s from the apartment complex on 27th SW just north of Roxbury. Just ask any evening Safeway employee. It’s hard to keep track of the shootings involving that complex over the years.

It seems this would be a great place to have the city install surveillance cameras given the amount of gun fire that happens there.

So, instead of a witness saying: shooter unknown race male-20’s with backpack and handgun on foot WSB would be reporting a camera shows the same thing.

When gunfire goes off, eyewitnesses are the most reliable source of info on the details of a shooting suspect?   Gunfire tends to make people duck their heads down, wouldn’t that affect their possible testimony?  Eyewitnesses have put countless people behind bars.  “Yup, that’s what I saw.”  Is that more reliable than viewing the incident over and over, reading license plates, posting still images of the suspects or people in question? Not being interested in getting results or trying to improve the situation seems to be the suggested course of action, so let’s not suggest or attempt anything. That’ll fix it.

yep, definitely no difference between a witness’s statement and photographic evidence.

The nursery has a nice, close up, face on photo of the person who broke in there last week and as a result that crime has been solved and the perpetrator arrested.

Wait a second, I’m now being informed my prior statement isn’t fully accurate.

One image alone may not solve one crime. An accumulation of images of the same person – someone arrested who police recognize from other incidents – those scenarios have appeared often in charging documents. I am not noting that as an argument for or against security video, just noting a fact since you bring it up. Even in cases where the burglar (etc.) has hidden their face, hair, etc., other aspects of apparel have given them away – TR

A wide angle view of an entire intersection is not going to capture enough detail to positively identify a suspect. WSB has published an uncountable number of photos that only confirm suspects were not naked. The very few that unequivocally identify criminals are “dog bites man” instances. Most security cameras are wastes of money.

Low income housing is right there. There’s a known drug apt too that still hasn’t been busted. My friend lives in one of them for many years and she hates it but is stuck. It’s not fair to people who aren’t involved in this riff raff. Things need to change. Maybe install cameras.,

Some actual lighting at the bus stop is needed!

Sadly gun laws in this country will ensure this is a permanent problem in our country.

I’m assuming you’re not familiar with Mexican gun laws and the ONE gun store the entire country has.

@KT Sincere question for you: What gun laws would prevent incidents like this from happening? There’s more than enough supporters in Seattle and Washington that could get them passed if we could get it outlined for our local government.
