WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Package locker break-in

Thanks to the reader who sent this photo and report after happening onto this at Admiral Safeway around 7:30 am:

When I arrived … there were a few empty packages in the parking lot. Amazon person is at machine …. reporting.

The sender says a store employee told them it’s happened before. We don’t know if it has been reported to police – there’s no obviously correlatory incident on the SPD map.

So, can’t get packages delivered at home because of ahole thieves, can’t get them delivered to a locker because of ahole thieves…

.. and this is why I use Alki Mail & Dispatch (just a few blocks away from Admiral Safeway) and I drive all the way from Highland Park to pick up packages. Them holding it is worth it and peace of mind, and from the porch pirates!! 🏴‍☠️

Safeway needs to bring the Locker indoors where staff can see them, like the 7-11 one block away. I’ll never send my packages to this one.

Except some people can’t make it during open Safeway hours, not 24/7 any more.

I only use indoor lockers -for this  very reason. I use the ones at what used to be Rite-Aid in California Ave. I need to check it out since CVS took over.

Appreciate that tip that some lockers are located indoors!  Does the A. website specify when the lockers are indoors? I don’t order often enough to know that detail, thanks!

Just discovered mine was one of the packages stolen. Didn’t receive any notice of this and when I put my code in it now says I’ve picked it up. The Amazon site isn’t much help after searching for help…anyone have any tips? Might try calling Safeway, but feel like it’s probably not their responsibility to handle this. Thanks in advance! Tyson

I would go back to your actual order on the Amazon website and see if there is a way to report lost or stolen for that specific order.  Rather than the generic Amazon Bot which seems to go nowhere.

Go online to Amazon and chat with a customer service rep.  Always works for me when I have issues

Just start a chat with Amazon customer service and explain what happened. Maybe even upload this photo. Might take you some clicks with the automated system to get to a person but it’s possible. I’ve had it happen a couple times at another location, but the same style of locker. They’ll either refund you or replace it. I didn’t have any problems. It’s amazing to me that Amazon knows this style of locker is super easy to break into and yet they do nothing about it. The newer style of locker, like at Lucky 5 on 35th, is a solid front panel which doesn’t seem like it can be pried off like the vertical panels on this style of locker. I haven’t had packages stolen from that one.

Matt,Go to your Amazon Acct. it is hard but you can find a Customer Service Chat and do that.  I am sure they will send you another pkg.

Appreciate all of the helpful replies! After going in circles with a chat bot for a bit, I eventually got a real life human who made things right. Just a minor speed bump in the grand scheme of things.

If you go to this link it shows pick up lockers in our area. The link that says show details will tell you if the lockers are inside or outside.https://www.amazon.com/location_selector?clientId=amazon_us_checkout_generic_mobile&_encoding=UTF8&countryCode=US&purchaseId=106-5486817-0153853&userBenefit=true&ref_=ox_shipaddress_storesearch&useCustomerContext=1&pipelineType=Chewbacca

We were told by Safeway that the.y are not responsible for the Amazon lockers.    Same thing with the BECU machine inside Admiral Safeway….BECU responsible for their own ATM.    It is a convenience  for us provided by Amazon and BECU

  • Chris August 24, 2025 (6:13 pm)

Tyson – you can go on the Amazon site and report your package was not received by you.   You can also call them.    I would think they will have a record of the lockers being broken into.   Amazon has been good at taking care of customers   They will replace your lost package.   Just suggest not using the outside Amazon boxes.

Same thing found at the Jefferson square Safeway this morning around 5:15am!

I have read that the vertical strip you see missing is absurdly easy to remove and then you have easy access to the lockers.  A seriously poor design choice if so.Amazon needs to have a glitter bomb package now and then in these things.

  • Sean August 25, 2025 (8:16 am)

I found a bunch of Amazon wrappers in the park across street near the tennis courts.

  • AK August 25, 2025 (11:50 am)

These need to be inside the stores. I would never pay money to have lockers outside, as that’s just asking to get stolen.

  • B August 25, 2025 (5:22 pm)

These lockers have beeped nonstop for the last year I’m surprised they still worked before this

  • Delia Delia August 29, 2025 (1:41 pm)

Maybe Amazon could put some sort of alarm on  The strips they pry off
