You asked, so we asked: West Seattle plans for ‘No Kings’ day of action next Saturday

Passing through The Junction on Saturday, we noted members of West Seattle Indivisible sign-waving, as planned, to remind people about the “No Kings” rally at Cal Anderson Park next Saturday (June 14), one of hundreds of planned protests nationwide. We’ve also been receiving questions by email, text, and voice about whether anything is planned here in West Seattle. So far, we have two answers:

#1 – If your concern is just getting there, transportation might be available, West Seattle Indivisible says. The group has filled up one bus with people interested in riding together to the Cal Anderson rally, leaving at 11 am Saturday from the West Seattle High School parking lot, $25 suggested donation. If they get enough expressions of interest, they’ll charter a second. You can sign up here if interested.

#2 – For those insistent on staying in West Seattle, Old Tyme Adults for Democracy sent us an announcement today for a street rally on the corners at Admiral/California on Saturday, 2-3 pm. Their group is based at nearby Brookdale Admiral Heights but all are welcome.

There is a rally at UW Red Square also put on by Indivisible, for those that want to maybe have less of a chance of being tear-gassed by out of control police who are attacking a few anarchists and possible Republican plants who want to start violent trouble during the march to Pike Place. The UW rally is scheduled from 12-3.

These are valid concerns. I will add for thought: fear is a tool of fascism. When we stand up and show up, even when we are afraid, we fight back.

Cheaper to take the Rapid Ride C line to 3rd and Seneca, transfer to the light rail at Symphony Station under Benaroya Hall and ride two stops to Capitol Hill Station which is right at the north end of Cal Anderson Park. It’s Flag Day so bring your American flag.

      Nope. God wouldn’t approve.

I guess if you believe in one false king, you believe in all of them.  The thing about kings is that they’re deflatable. Equality does not include domination, and domination – whether it be attempted by gods or kings – is never just.

I’d just rather our flag wasn’t put next to a fascist, megalomaniac’s name, personally. Our lives aren’t a game. God has no part in this, in determining the actions of a selfish, reckless human being. Shame on you for insinuating that he has a right granted by a higher power.

For those who want to participate in a smaller gathering, there will also be a sign protest venue at Detective Cookie’s chess park   (Rainier Ave S and 51st Ave. S in Rainier Beach).   This group has been at it every Saturday from 12 -2 pm for several months.   You are welcome to join us any Saturday!

I am planning to be at the West Seattle Junction with my “no kings” sign on Sat, starting at noon. Anyone else who wants to stay closer to home is welcome! Happy Flag Day! (and West Seattle Indivisible plans a “reclaim our flag” on 6/28 at the Junction — and maybe other intersections along CA — to reclaim our flag before the Independence Day celebrations. I’ll be there then, too.)

Thanks for the write-up!  We’ve been trying to see what options we have to participate in protests, but still attend the Morgan Community Festival.  So much going on this weekend!

Anyone know of any local shops selling ‘No Kings’ shirts? Ideally with profits going to a good cause, but I would happily settle for supporting local.

    God Bless our President.
