WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Gunfire investigated, two arrested (Tuesday update)

6:41 PM MONDAY: Police investigating gunfire have found casings and detained two possible suspects. The casings were found in the 5900 block of 30th SW, according to what officers told dispatch a short time ago. They have detained two people, one of whom is reported to have been found with a gun in her possession. We’ll be following up later on whether they were arrested.

ADDED 11:20 AM TUESDAY: We’ve obtained the police-report narrative. It clarifies that, as a commenter says below, one shot was confirmed. The two people we reported as “detained” were ultimately arrested and booked into King County Jail, on warrants from previous cases, according to the narrative. One was a 37-year-old woman, in whose tote bag they found what ultimately was described as a “ghost gun … with a magazine seated in the mag well” but she claimed it wasn’t hers, that it was given to her a short time earlier by someone she described as a friend of her boyfriend, while saying she didn’t know the friend’s name. She also is reported to have claimed the unnamed friend is the one who fired the gun. Police found she was wanted on two warrants, a felony case alleging possession of a stolen vehicle, and a misdemeanor case alleging theft. According to the narrative, the other person arrested was her boyfriend, who also had a warrant out for his arrest (though the report doesn’t say for what). If you have any information, the case is 25-135257.

Thanks for reporting! Since the area has such a gun problem, it would be nice to know if the possession of the firearm was legal or not, snd if it was suspected gang activity or not

Possible firearms charges alone could include but are not limited to: Possession of stolen firearm (federal), concealed firearms without concealed carry permit (state), possession of ghost gun (federal), possession of a loaded firearm concealed without a permit (state), felon in possession of a firearm (federal), illegal discharge of a firearm (state, city, federal, pick your flavor).

Thank you Police!!! Now if we can throw away the keys and keep them locked up we can all live in peace again.

That will never happen – IF charged-this is a misdemeanor-no jail time.

I heard what I thought was one shot.  Sirens followed shortly after.  Happened to look out the window and saw about 6 cars fly down Brandon street.  It appears they stopped whomever near Shrees Gas Station.  The response felt faster this time- hopefully due to more patrols in the area.

I was the one who called it in and spoke with SPD officers. They shot a single round into my back yard as they walked east on Findley crossing over 30th. I don’t think they would have made it all the way to the gas station on foot that fast. Hopefully they got the right people!

If they took the trail that the city light owns down Findly, they could have got there within about seven minutes.  It’s off the beaten path, but definitely doable. And would keep them more hidden from public eye

Beavis would say “get ‘em, get’em”

    Thank you SPD.

Updated with the arrests + a few other bits of info from the narrative.

Thank you for the updates WSB and thank you SPD for making arrests in this case.

Where did this actually occur? The 5900 block of 30th SW does not appear to be a valid address.

    • WSB May 20, 2025 (8:06 pm)

Sorry, they gave various blocks during the radio exchanges – checking back on the narrative, the only locations mentioned are 31st/Findlay for the initial reports, and the suspect claiming she had. been at “a house on 30th.” The shorter preliminary summary says 30th/Findlay for the initial reports.
