WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Gunfire in Riverview

Police investigating a report of suspected gunfire in the Riverview Playfield area have found evidence to confirm it. An officer just told dispatch they found four casings “near the baseball field.” No report of injuries, nor description of suspect(s), so far.

This meeting was a joke.  First off- They should have anticipated a large crowd and held it in a school gymnasium. It was overcrowded and extremely hot. There was no overflow space and you could barely hear what they were saying, many left because of this.  Now to the other – Classic Seattle politics- talk, talk, talk.  While we appreciate the city officials coming out, they did not give any of the attendees a chance to ask questions or express real concerns. Which was originally the whole point of meeting and as advertised. We were under the impression that it would be a community conversation and discussion.  The officials monopolized the whole time (only 1.5hrs) basically campaigning for the positions they already hold and trying to sugar coat the situation with fixing street lights… great. We know who you are and why we are all here.  What they should have made clear was that people needed to submit questions prior to the meeting so that those questions would be addressed. Can we please just cut the introductions and get to the real stuff? Overall, the meeting came off as a total waste of the public’s time, which is really disappointing and frustrating.

There would have been enough seats if the entire front half of them weren’t occupied by city employees. The announcement said doors open at 6:15. I got there a 6:15 and it was already packed. The city employees conveniently provided a buffer between the panel and residents. The room thats connected by a the door on the north side of that meeting room is at least twice as big. It’s where the High Point HOA hosts the monthly board meetings. It could have easily fit everyone.
