WEST SEATTLE WEATHER: Winds kick up; first power outage takes out 250+ in Seaview; second outage in that area too

6:24 PM: Eight hours or so into the High Wind Warning alert, the wind kicked up a short time ago (we heard thunder too!), and West Seattle has its first power outage of note – more than 250 customers in Seaview. People in the area report hearing a “boom” before the power went out. Updates to come …

6:56 PM: This storm seems to be arriving (and departing) in waves, and we’re between waves right now. The photo above is from James Bratsanos, who noticed it just before that intense wave of rain, wind, and thunder. So far the 256-customer Seaview outage is the only one in West Seattle; citywide it’s the second-largest after a 5,300+-customer outage in North Seattle.

7:43 PM: The SCL map shows the Seaview outage has been resolved.

2:36 AM: An area further south in Seaview and beyond has lost power this time:

City Light says this one is affecting 100+ customers. The wind is about the strongest-sounding we’ve heard all night.

Power out at our block. Huge gusts of wind, then a crack and BOOM down the street and the whole block went dark around 6:12pm.

Block behind Rite Aid – first time this has happened in years.

We’ve noticed several flickers down here too but so far that Seaview outage, now 256 customers, is the only one mapped.

holy smokes – was walking the dog on a beautiful evening at 6pm and by 6:15 my umbrella was inside out and we were soaked! that wind and rain came up quick!

Power is out in Seaview. There was a loud boom and the power went out.

Rite Aid on California closed early, apparently they only have back up power. Some lights on but very dim, one angry customer banged in the door, screaming “if you’re closed, put a ***king sign up”. 2/24, 7PM.

Big KABOOOOOOOM and the lights went out at WS Nursery. Pretty sure we saw the flash from the transformer blowing in the alley. Best of luck, everyone! Stay safe out there

Just heard a huge boom in Seaview again, this time around 47/48th and graham/raymond. Lights off across the street and beyond but somehow we still have ours.

49th and Dawson, gusts are roaring through here but we still have power. Some things banging around a bit in my yard, but can’t tell what. I did hear something banging as it moved down the street and I think it was somebody’s garbage can.

Just went out over near SSC. Whole bunch of loud booms in a row before it went dark. It came back for a sec, but then another boom and it was out again.
