WEST SEATTLE WILDLIFE: Elephant-seal sighting

Just in from Kersti Muul: “Male elephant seal off Weather Watch Park. Pretty close in.” If you’re not familiar with it, Weather Watch is the beachfront pocket park at Beach Drive/SW Carroll (across from La Rustica). You can see what elephant seals look like in this sighting report from 2021.

Hoping someone can send in some good pictures. It may be ‘Ruckus’ the male that frequents the area; showed up in 2021 at the Des Moines. Marina. He’s currently bobbing up and down and diving every 15 minutes. Now off me kwa mooks

If you spot this animal on a  West Seattle beach, please report this to the Seal Sitters’ Hotline at 206-905-7325. This is a photo of “Ruckus”, a male Northern Elephant Seal that was taken back in 2021 along Beach Drive.

Side note. For many years the building La Rustica is in was a grocery store.
