It’s interesting that Jayapal’s crew is so secretive about the location of the town hall.  Not to criticize, just observing — politics must be tense now days if the location of a congress person is so closely guarded.  Perhaps they are afraid of crashers, or protestors, or worse.

Interesting that our so called “representative” is vetting attendees before disclosing the event site.

Seems like a clear 1st Ammendment violation. How can one freely excercise “The right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances” if we don’t “qualify” according to a bureaucrat? And the location being kept secret? Seems like something stinks here.

Gosh, it’s almost as though someone recently stalked her and posted up outside her home with the intention to harm her due to her politics or something. Also you don’t understand the 1st amendment if you think your speech is being limited by the government because politicians vet people for town halls (which is a common practice).

      FROG.
I registered for the town hall. I was not vetted but rather was asked to register. It’s quite customary for events to ask for RSVPs for planning purposes. your free speech has not been infringed on imo.

It’s not stifling until it happens to you. Got it.

Voter disenfranchisement is perpetrated by both parties. 1 of them is actually charged with it.

And @ Josh – 1 nut. who was caught (by the police that so many ’round these parts hate) tried AND convicted and (should be) currently incarcerated if I remember correctly. What was it her hero said? Never let a crisis go to waste? Guess any reason to vet attendees is good enough.

As I said earlier – under a different post. It’s not you vs me. Once a great number of Americans realize this – we may actually be able to step forward.

I am registered for this event, but will have to cancel.  I won’t disclose the location.  I was honest about what I wanted to hear about and was invited, no idea if was because of or in spite of the topics that interested me .  I believe the questionnaire was more geared towards finding out what the community wants to discuss so that she could prepare accordingly.  The venue truly does have limited seating but I think it was a good choice as it is near public transport so that you don’t need to worry about parking to attend.  Hopefully they are prepared as they can be for protestors or crashers.

I hope there are protesters. She needs to be a little stronger on her demands for ceasefire. No one is holding Biden to the flames on this enough.

I’m middle of the road in my feelings toward Rep. Jayapal but decided to RSVP anyway. I also added my own concerns in the ‘other’ section of the questionnaire, wondering if I’d be viewed as problematic.  I still received an invitation despite those concerns so it has nothing to do with cowardice or exclusionary tactics.  After direct threats made to her at her home, I don’t blame Rep. Jayapal for being extra cautious.  I believe anyone that was on her mailing list received an opportunity to RSVP via her newsletter.  It’s very simple to sign up.  If you weren’t previously concerned with what she was doing or what she had to say then it’s really a moot point to rail against her for taking precautions.

With the U.S. now fighting undeclared wars on at least two fronts – Iran and Russia – I am hoping that attendees will press Ms. Jayapal to clarily her position.  She has been one of the few to push back but she can do more.  I fear that we are becoming numbed to it all and accept this state of war as normal.

Sorry, comment time is over.
