WEST SEATTLE WILDLIFE: Gatewood coyote sighting

Just received from Vanessa: “I just spotted a coyote crossing SW Southern St. right off of California Ave. (a few blocks east of Lincoln Park). It went up into the backyard area of the house on the northwest corner of that intersection.” We publish sighting reports for awareness, not alarm; read this to learn about co-existence advice. Rose street just west of California, there was a sign for a couple years that read, “Coyote Scare! Beware”

Coyotes range throughout the city.  Keep your cats indoors.

Hi i live in highland park above the duwamish greenbelt. yesterday early sunday morning my neighbors beloved cat was killed in front of my house and across the street. i helped my neighbor pick up his cats body and due to the condition of the cats body, i am of the opinion that the poor cat was attacked by coyotes. i have 2 little dogs 16 lbs a piece and i always accompany them outside at night. i just want all the people that have small pets to be aware that the threat of coyotes attacking your pets is real and to keep an eye on them when they are outside especially at night.

Well over 60 years ago back in Kansas we used to get 2 bucks an ear bounty on ’em. I remember (being 4 or 5) Grandpa getting upset after finding one he had shot had lost an ear in a fight. Presumably with another coyote.  Of course here in the city only bad actors get to shoot their guns. Win for the coyotes.

Sorry, comment time is over.
