FYI: Helicopter sightings expected Sunday before Seahawks flyover

Early heads-up, you may notice military helicopters over West Seattle this Sunday (September 10th) because of a flyover planned for the Seahawks‘ season-opener. We’re told helicopters from Joint Base Lewis-McChord will be in the area mid-morning and early afternoon; the game starts after 1 pm.

    SWEET!! 🇺🇸  I hope they’re Chinooks.

  • Yup September 6, 2023 (8:20 pm)

Yes Chinooks… Low and Loud. God bless America

  • Sam-c September 6, 2023 (8:54 pm)

Were they practicing tonight?  Helicopter hovering over the area from 7:45 to 8:30 ish

What a dreadful waste of fossil fuels during a global climate emergency. Disgusting.

They’re gonna fly for required training hours regardless of your opinion, you should look into how much energy is consumed by the manufacturer’s of everything you consume daily instead.

Wars cause more environmental/climate damage than anything else and U.S. military preparedness prevents wars on our shores. It’s appropriate that those choppers are painted green 🌱

To understand circular reasoning and why it is bad look closely at Rhonda’s post. On second thought, dont.

With all due respect, Rhonda, how did the Iraq War,  Panama,  Kosovo, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Libya, and numerous other interventions (some you haven’t heard about) prevent war on our shores?  They didn’t, it’s  propaganda from the military industrial complex that Ike warned us about.

        • C September 7, 2023 (2:30 pm)

Ike originally wrote “military-congressional-industrial complex.” The warning from the General was indeed a foreshadowing of the problem we have. We keep losing our “wars”, starting with the Vietnam war… Iraq 2 and Afghanistan a total waste of lives, money, and status. The US lost both. And the people who live in those regions have generational suffering. But yeah, fly the war machines over a violent sport America. It’s shameful.

Wars cause more environmental/climate damage than anything else…” Care to provide any data to back up such claim?

You have got to be kidding me. The United States going totally carbon zero would do nothing to slow down any effect of emissions on global warming. You would have to convince China and India to clean up there acts if you want any kind of actual change to occur as they both make more than everyone else combined.

@Melissa:  if you feel so strongly about the waste of fossil fuels that the Chinnoks use (though they do need those training hours) – why don’t you get out there and start lobbying against the fossil fuels wasted on sporting,  plays, ballet, museums, vacations, etc. attendance unless you ride your bike to them

I’ll chime in that I hate the noise too. Thanks for the heads up. Yes, they might have to do their training hours, but please not over residential areas.

Children screaming, dogs barking, loud mufflers, and thumping stereos are just as disagreeable if not more so.  We all tolerate noise living near others.  At least the flyovers are generally limited to sports and not even every game.  Pretty benign on the inconvenience scale.  (I like them and they’re low enough over my place to see & wave at crews if the loading ramps are down.)

I hope they fly over West Seattle. I absolutely love hearing them when they’re out.

We live in West Seattle, and they been flying all morning! I love it too!

  • K September 7, 2023 (10:43 am)

I hope they fly over West Seattle just to piss the people off that are complaining about them.

  • HP2 September 7, 2023 (12:47 pm)

Maybe invest in some noise canceling headphones
