UPDATE: Impeachment supporters rally in West Seattle Junction

6:04 PM: Before the U.S. House of Representatives‘ expected vote tomorrow on presidential impeachment, hundreds of rallies are happening around the nation tonight, one of them in the West Seattle Junction. Our rough estimate is about 100 people at California and Alaska; they are walking back and forth during the crossing times in the Walk-All-Ways intersection.

A rally is also under way downtown at 2nd/Marion.

6:45 PM: Our crew has moved on but the live traffic camera at California/Alaska shows the rally has ended.

10:09 PM: Added video and 2 more photos.

EARLY WEDNESDAY: Thanks to those who sent photos. Here are two by Jonathan Rawle:

My wish for Christmas, trump be gone.

  • Rick December 17, 2019 (6:35 pm)

What a Sham, if this was an actual * Real Judge and Jury trial*. It would be thrown out of court.  Zero Evidence, no crimes committed in the  Articles of Impeachment. All *Hearsay and Make Believe* No firsthand witnesses testified., Not even the actual whistleblower. Over $100 million wasted by the Democrats on a  scam on the American people. We will never vote Democrat again. Toxic

      Are you serious?

      • WW Resident December 18, 2019 (12:21 pm)

Actually, Professor Johnathan Turley, who often testifies at congress for constitutional issues and other legal issues (and who is not a Trump supporter and thought the Bush Administration should be brought up on war crimes) testified that the way the Democrats were going about this was not due process. This wasn’t on Fox News, but the PBS News Hour.As someone who didn’t vote for Trump, I’m finding the hysteria to be quite strange. After all, Biden is on camera stating that he threatened Ukraine and laughing about it. Alyssa Milano just recently sent tweets out about how Trump created a fake university to trick illegal immigrants and arrest them when they apply for the college. Elizabeth Warren and others jumped all over it. The problem is this actually happened before Trump took office and the university was actually created in 2013 and there was a similar operation in 2015. This is much like the kids in cages pics. Turns out those were taken in 2014

        • Zark00 December 18, 2019 (7:28 pm)

Turley did not testify that there was no due process. That was in a letter, from top white house council Pat Cipporone, that was mentioned in the article you read about Turleys testimony.Turley testified that the evidence was thin and the impeachment was rushed.Read Turleys whole paper on the impeachment, it will enlighten you. Turley clearly believes Trump is incompetent, a threat to the well being of the nation, and should be removed from office. He has issues with the evidentiary foundation of the Ukrainian case against him and has major issues with the quick impeachment. He states clearly that he is talking about the rule of law only and not the spirit of the impeachment at all. Turley says that for Trump to be guilty of bribery, for example, he would have to have said it explicitly and that even though we all know hes guilty, it doesnt matter because in a court of law it would have to be supported by evidence that needs to be as clear as Trump saying “if you dont investigate Biden, I wont send the aid.” Then he says because it all happened so fast, he doesnt know if there’s evidence, so he’s assuming there is not because that’s all he can do.He also says while there is a clearly identified path to impeachment for “abuse of power” set by the founding fathers, but it hasn’t been tested yet. He doesnt think it would go well, just a never ending argument, and so there’s no point – so he suggests not even trying it.8

      Turn off Fox News.

    • Tullius December 17, 2019 (7:44 pm)

So, Bribery isn’t a crime?  I’d love to live in your world.   BTW, the President announced the bribery himself – when you have a confession, you don’t need witnesses.  And yes,  that $100 million is terrible – except that it’s less than the $114 million that the President has spent playing golf.  Hmmm…

      • Dee December 18, 2019 (1:35 pm)

Sounds like you’re talking about the Bidens! Really our President spent 114 million playing golf?! hmmm, can you spend that much $ on golf??

        • Sue December 19, 2019 (4:57 pm)

Dee, yes of course Trump can and did spend a HUGE amount going to his golf courses all over the U.S. Do you not know that when the president goes somewhere a lot of money is spent to protect him. That means hotel and food costs for them all. I think it’s clear that he’s a better golfer than a leader.

    • FJ December 17, 2019 (7:51 pm)

Lol Rick. You mean the witnesses Trump won’t let testify?

Comrade Rick | стог: Nice of you to Trollski on this blogski.

    • Also John December 18, 2019 (6:42 am)

No firsthand witnesses?  Did you even pay attention?  There was two firsthand witnesses interviewed by the House.  Both were there listening to Trumps call.  The military gentleman even requested additional notes be added to the phone calls transcript that were not included.  He said he filed a complaint about the call.

    • Joe December 18, 2019 (9:00 am)

Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, Michael Flynn, Rick Gates, George Papadopoulos, Michael Cohen etc. Donald Trump – 2016: “I tell you right now, I will surround myself with nothing but the best people”. By the way. Of the people Obama surrounded himself with, not ONE person ever went to jail !!!

    • Richard Curtis December 18, 2019 (9:42 am)

When we see polls showing Republican support for such blatant corruption and criminality it is difficult to understand.  Do they hate America?  Hate democracy?  Do they really believe such obvious lies from well established liars?  Do they just not care about their lives or their children’s future?  It is mystifying that people would reject such obvious facts and support such obvious criminality and fascist politics. All I can say is they must not care about their children or their own future wellbeing.

  • HS December 17, 2019 (7:23 pm)

Looks like a pretty good turnout for WS. I made it downtown and was happy to see each generation well represented. I particularly enjoyed the great handmade signs. Felt good to physically take up a bit of space on this topic.

  • Mk December 17, 2019 (7:24 pm)

Good thing Trump is no longer a Democrat lol.

    • Angela Balmer December 18, 2019 (5:03 pm)

  • Zmmr December 17, 2019 (7:30 pm)

Go home, what a waste of time.Economy is good, people are working, 401k is good. Trump will be reelected easily, there are no good Democrat candidates, they have no clear agendas.Trump2020 Tim Eyeman will win too.

    • Also John December 18, 2019 (6:46 am)

So you’re saying that as long as your three mentioned categories are doing good, it doesn’t matter what our President does.  Will you allow him to kill?  Will you allow rape?  What are your limits?

    • Patrick December 18, 2019 (9:49 pm)

Good Economy for who? Half of the country has low paying jobs….

  • Terri December 17, 2019 (7:33 pm)

Great turnout, young and old and in between, lots of honking in support. Many thanks to the organizers … it was great to rally with our neighbors.

  • londie December 17, 2019 (7:35 pm)

No first hand witnesses bc the criminal that is Trump blocked them from testifying!

  • Jeannie December 17, 2019 (8:16 pm)

Proud to have participated in the downtown rally. Also proud of my West Seattle neighbors for gathering in the Junction. ‘Tis the season to fight treason. And plenty of evidence (as in FACTS) that tRump is a traitor.

Nothing will come of the impeachment not because he is not guilty but because every thing Iand every one is polarized no one is going to change their mindwould hope the dems come up with a platform And a candidate that can grab independents if not we will continue this nightmare for another 5 years

  • WSRes December 17, 2019 (8:48 pm)

We are so blessed to live in a country where it is legal to gather in public and express your message, even if it’s in opposition to those who hold seats of power. I joined the Service to do my part to defend that right. But I live in a place and a time where I feel only one viewpoint is allowed to be expressed in my community. I think peaceful open dialogue discussing contrary viewpoints has completely been shut down in Seattle. Sad really, because shutting down that dialogue stifles the growth of everyone on both sides of a viewpoint. Maybe I’m wrong, I hope so.

    • Will S. December 17, 2019 (9:09 pm)

No one is stopping you from expressing your views. And don’t be surprised if your neighbors are appalled by a president who tried to leverage the military power of the United States so that a foreign country would promote his reelection campaign.

      • Bradley December 18, 2019 (1:45 am)

No one will stop us from expressing our pro-Republican and pro-President Trump views around here? Really? We were spat at in front of the federal building tonight and we had to be protected by SPD and federal security guards long before the rally started. We were verbally harrassed and threatened by not only impeachment fanatics at the rally but by some of the drivers sitting in traffic. Perhaps you should put on a TRUMP 2020 t-shirt and MAGA hat and walk around downtown Seattle before you say such a thing?

        • Sue December 19, 2019 (5:16 pm)

Bradley it’s hard to believe that you are being harassed in Seattle. A man in his car gave me the finger before our protest started in West Seattle.  I didn’t whine about it because our country allows free speech.  And good grief, the police helped you.

      • B.W. December 19, 2019 (12:10 am)

Nice try Will. God forbid you are a moderate or even worse, a CONSERVATIVE, in Seattle. You will get called a Nazi, racist,  homophobic, bigot, xenophobic  and many other names. Only people who are allowed to share their opinion in this city are progressive liberals without fear. So please, spare us the “No is stopping you” b.s.

    • Sixbuck December 17, 2019 (10:03 pm)

      You are, unfortunately, absolutely correct.

  • Friend O'Dinghus December 17, 2019 (9:29 pm)

Productive dialogue can only happen when certain realities are acknowledged by both parties. Until objective facts are acknowledged by both sides (for instance, congressional witnesses, whom could have provided exculpatory evidence, were blocked by the President from testifying) then we are in the realm of the irrational, or the willfully ignorant. The latter is a lack of good faith in establishing dialogue; the former is obviously pointless to even communicate with other than nodding and smiling. So, can everyone here agree that congressional witnesses, whom could have provided exculpatory evidence, were blocked by the President from testifying?Just my two cents. Merry Christmas everyone!

  • Steve December 17, 2019 (9:30 pm)

Trump is impeached, Pence has an unfortunate accident. Pelosi takes helm of presidency and her an HiLIARy sip a glass of wine together the blood red color coating their toothy grins before they let out a diabolical laughter together. – The End

    • MomBasement December 17, 2019 (11:04 pm)

That’s some A+ Incel fan fiction.  I hope you tip your fedora at the end.

    • zark00 December 18, 2019 (4:13 pm)

@ Richard CurtisRichard – this guy – Steve – this is what you’re talking about and I, like you, just do not get. This guy literally thinks Hilary and Pelosi are evil, and are plotting the murder of Pence to assume power? Notice also how he just injected Hilary into his weird little play?  Out of nowhere. They think Hilary is still running things from the shadows.  I’m not kidding, they actually believe that to be completely true.  That’s how crazy some of the republican, far right, stuff really is.  Read up on QAnon and the “Deep State” – or maybe don’t, it’s really depressing once you realize how many people – like Steve here – believe it.  Otherwise rational people have bought into some of the most bat bleep insane conspiracy stuff I have ever come across.Check this out – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGrfN3v5JL8It's amazing.  Jim Jefferies, interviewing a group of QAnon conspiracy theorists.  You can really see how far down the rabbit hole they’ve gone, and how bizarre this stuff really gets.  BTW the “blood red” this guy Steve is talking about above – they think the Clinton’s run a baby farm to breed human babies so that they can consume some substance in their blood that is like a drug – or maybe it’s like a youth serum?  I’m not kidding, I wish I was.  It’s amazing the amount of credit they give our party.  Most Dems know we’re too disorganized to find a band aid let alone farm babies or whatever.

  • gxnx December 17, 2019 (9:32 pm)

Q: you think the Democrats can run this country better than Trump?

    • TM December 17, 2019 (10:14 pm)

Yes. Some republicans too. Trump’s “running” it into the ground

    • Sixbuck December 17, 2019 (10:36 pm)

  • Westside Rob December 17, 2019 (10:49 pm)

If you want the truth stop watching CNN, and watch FOX News for the Truth, you will be enlightened. Do you think Putin and the rest of the World leaders watch CNN for the real news?

    • Glenda December 18, 2019 (1:28 am)

Putin doesn’t watch the news- he tells FOX what IS the news.

    • zark00 December 18, 2019 (4:15 pm)

Um, you rate your news media based on what Putin watches?  That’s weird. Like really weird.  Fox News is literally a threat to our national security.  Your comment about Putin kind of proves it.

  • andy December 18, 2019 (4:55 am)

I hope you all had fun last night. But your demonstration means nothing. Even if the House convicts him, the Senate will not. Thus nothing but a lot of obstructionist noise. Trump will be reelected.

    • Kathy December 18, 2019 (9:08 am)

Trump will run again because he thinks he is so special but he will go down like a stone and take his staunchest supporters in congress with him. Better for the Republicans if they remove him, then they may have a chance to save their jobs. Unlike his opponents who were the victims of his foreign government assisted smear jobs, he will go down because of his own stupid actions.

    • zark00 December 18, 2019 (4:18 pm)

House doesn’t convict anyone – they don’t know, or care, how the government actually functions.  Which is partly why they don’t care when stuff like McConnell saying he’ll be in lock step with the White House during the impeachment trial happens.  They don’t know how it works, they don’t know what’s protecting them, or not, so they just listen to what Fox says, and regurgitate it.

      • Kathy December 18, 2019 (6:57 pm)

I was obviously not talking about the House.

  • Graciano December 18, 2019 (6:26 am)

Your life will be 100x better if you go outside and do something vs watching the news and getting wrapped up in politics.

  • anonyme December 18, 2019 (6:45 am)

WSRes, you make an excellent point.  Alternative views are very effectively suppressed when any attempt to offer them results in vociferous attacks, including accusations of being a hater, Nazi, fascist, compassionless Trump lover.  Those responses shut down dialogue quite efficiently.

    • CMT December 18, 2019 (9:05 am)

Fiona Hill testified very clearly regarding Russia’s efforts to totally polarize the US to weaken it.  We are witnessing Russia’s success in our every day lives and our inability to find middle ground.

Thank you Kathy. Thank you CMT. From the folks who think this is something worth ignoring, or is just politics, I am still waiting for any of you to acknowledge that the President blocked exculpatory witness from testifying under oath. All of you know it’s true, yet none of you will acknowledge it, because, well that’s one of the two impeachable offenses proven now isn’t it? Faux outrage, chaos, ignorance matters not to the righteous.

  • Dee December 18, 2019 (1:42 pm)

God Bless our President & his family.

    • Ev December 18, 2019 (2:23 pm)

Morrison, Volker, Zelensky, Yermak, Trump. All firsthand witnesses. All say the same thing: there was no political quid pro quo, there was no bribery, there was no pressure, and NO discussions of such.

Doesn’t matter what the Democrats say. Their case is malarkey.

      • CMT December 18, 2019 (4:20 pm)

Common sense would dictate when examining two opposing accounts of the same conversation – think about who has a motive to lie …  in this case that would be nonpartisan career diplomats on the one side versus the person in hot water and the president Ukraine who is desperate for aid being controlled by that person.

    • zark00 December 18, 2019 (4:22 pm)

It’s not about God – not sure why religious people have linked God, Christianity and Trump – but it’s weird in the least, and anti-Christian.  Nobody with any real sense of morality could consider themselves a Christian and support Trump.

  • LJ December 18, 2019 (2:40 pm)

The polls show this  impeachment effort is very unpopular among independent voters. This could lead to the republicans taking back the house and again winning the electoral college and presidency in 2020. If Trump wins again it is extremely likely that he will have the opportunity to nominate somebody to replace Ginsburg on the supreme court. What the extreme left is forcing the Democratic party to do is not wise and could easily backfire on November 3rd.

    • CMT December 18, 2019 (6:02 pm)

That is a horrible possibility but unless the United States wants to accept blatant corruption and abuses of power as the norm and abandon even a pretense of democratic principles, those who understand what is at stake have to stand up and call Trump’s activity what it is and reject it.

  • Vanessa December 18, 2019 (4:38 pm)

I know i’m mostly preaching to the choir…. but this is a question for some Republicans….how can you support 45 when it is so blatantly clear that he is in business with RUSSIA????  And if Russia is reading this, would you please take Trump back sometime soon? Like by next November when he loses, perhaps sooner.

  • MM December 18, 2019 (6:20 pm)

Go Trump 2020!  MAGA hat challenge! Walk away!  Have a Merry Christmas everyone and cheers to a prosperous New Year in the greatest Country!  Proud to be an American! We are all so blessed to have so much freedom!

  • Scubafrog December 18, 2019 (7:30 pm)

Our great community is 100% Pro-Impeach.   Thank goodness for our great education system, opportunities to make wealth, opportunities at higher education.  I just can’t imagine living in the trump-belt where’re no schools, no colleges, and the welfare rate is  nearly 100%.  Very sad.  I’m so very grateful for what we have here.  It would appear that the states that support trump with zeal are hurting, and I’m empathetic to that.  Sadly he’s abandoned them (and never supported them, only in words).  I don’t now what it will take to reinvigorate the Middle Class, but it surely won’t be the pro-1% GOP.

    • Atlas Shrugged... December 19, 2019 (8:20 am)

Scubafrog- your post drips with Ayn Rand Objectivism. The reason for the Trumps in the world and why will see many more is the boastful cultural familiarity bias that we live under right now. I do think considering your words would serve you well. This advice comes from a lifelong progressive/liberal Democrat.

  • Patrick December 18, 2019 (9:54 pm)

    • MM December 18, 2019 (10:59 pm)

      Hide? Why hide?  We don’t.

    • Bradley December 18, 2019 (11:07 pm)

We don’t hide. Perhaps you just have blinders on? When I wear my MAGA or NRA hat to Westwood Village, Safeway, and Admiral I have people come up to shake my hand. You walk by proud Trump supporters and Republicans dozens of times every day.

    • Alkimark December 19, 2019 (7:30 am)

We are working at our jobs and businesses, creating wealth and prosperity.  We are busy people who don’t have time to waste on silly protests

  • Friend O'Dinghus December 19, 2019 (6:43 am)

Just a quick note: I am still waiting on one single supporter of our current President to acknowledge (right here on this comment thread) that President Trump blocked exculpatory witnesses, with first-hand knowledge of the events, from testifying before Congress. Three days have passed.  Now I would also like acknowledgement that Vice President Pence is also blocking witnesses from testifying. Come on Trump-R’s…you can do it. Living in an objective reality isn’t hard, until it chafes against the subjective or irrational. Merry Christmas everyone!

    • Bradley December 19, 2019 (1:36 pm)

President Trump has a VAST legal team. Do you actually think he’s making legal decisions on his own? It sounds like you possibly don’t understand the decision-making process of a Presidential Administration. He has every right to defend himself, legally. Review our 4th and 5th Amendments. Now, if you want to talk about the EXTREME deceptive legal maneuvering from Adam Schiff, Jerry Nadler, and Nancy Pelosi’s staffs, then I can go all day. Pelosi and top Democrats are so desperate now that they’re trying to keep this out of the Senate. This was NEVER about fairness for Democrats: it was a coup…..and it failed.

      • Sue December 19, 2019 (5:30 pm)

No, Bradley,  it didn’t fail.  HE WAS IMPEACHED.

        • Meaningful? December 20, 2019 (9:09 pm)

Aside from a legacy footnote what does it mean? He won’t be removed from office and will run for a second term and most likely win. All just partisan posturing.

  • Super Dummy December 19, 2019 (1:46 pm)

What we are witnessing here is TDS made real. So, the Democrats are so sure of their impeachment of President Trump that Namcy Pelosi will turn her findings on impeachment over to the Senate? LOL!I’m looking forward to Trump’s second term as President.

  • Friend O'Dinghus December 19, 2019 (2:18 pm)

Legal teams offer advice. Ultimately, the client (in this case President Trump) makes every decision with regards to their defense. His advisers may have suggested it, but Donald J. Trump is the man responsible for blocking exculpatory witness from testifying before Congress. Period. I appreciate you contemplating it though, as that’s critical in any democracy.

  • anonyme December 20, 2019 (6:34 am)

There is only one reason for Trump (who notoriously never listens to advice) to have chosen to block testimony by first-hand witnesses: guilt.  If there were a single exculpatory witness, this thing would never have gotten off the ground.  There isn’t, and no amount of flailing and red-faced hyperbole can change that.

Sorry, comment time is over.
