TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Tuesday watch; bridge crash

(SDOT MAP with travel times/ Is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE/ West Seattle-relevant traffic cams HERE)

6:58 AM: Good morning! No transit alerts or traffic incidents in/from our area, so far.

8:51 AM: Thanks for the tips. A motorcycle crash is reported on the eastbound bridge, at Admiral. An SFD medical response is just now being dispatched.

8:55 AM: From SDOT:

9:05 AM: As the SDOT camera shows,t this is actually right at the peak of the high rise. Traffic is being routed into the outside lane. No word on the rider’s condition.

9:29 AM: SDOT has turned the camera back the other way but reports all lanes are clear. We’ll check with SFD re: the rider.

ADDED: He is in his early 60s per SFD and was in stable condition when taken to the hospital.

I don’t normally take the C downtown, but did they change the route or did the driver make a mistake? Just took 4th Ave and the busway.

Rider down EB West Seattle bridge near top of high rise. He appeared to be concious. A couple of good Samaritans providing aid.

On the 55 this morning, our driver skipped the new stop at 1st & Jackson. The stop was announced and requested, but he mumbled something about not feeling safe. Other passengers said he didn’t stop there yesterday either. Any ideas about what’s going on? Do the drivers need more training on this stop or something?

The word is that a lot of the drivers on many different routes are confused and making mistakes. We (#56) didn’t stop there but no one had pulled the request bell either. I know yesterday, we (#57) did stop and several people got out. The all-doors entrances are hit and miss, there are apparently some buses going into the tunnel or missing the new stops. This was a major service change and there are new drivers on the road.

Early season riding is off to a rocky start with all these WS moto crashes… please, look out for motorcyclists as the weather gets warmer!

    • Michael March 26, 2019 (11:51 am)

Please look out for motorcyclists *all* the time.  We take up less space than a car both in traffic and parking, everyone wins.

Better yet, how about EVERYONE out on the road look out for each other?

Keep and eye out for us pedestrians, I now use a hand held bright led light that I point towards the ground and occasionally forward a little while on the corner and crossing the street so I do not get run over by motorcycles cars trucks bicycles please be aware of each other.

Motorcycles like to pass cars in the tunnel too using the strip to the left of the left lane.

Drove past this about the time the photo from SDOT was posted. Any update on the rider’s condition?

    • WSB March 26, 2019 (1:17 pm)

I still haven’t heard back from SFD. Looks like the rider was taken to the hospital by a medic unit, so injuries were not likely minor; if life-threatening, they would generally call out the Traffic Collision Investigation detectives, and that did NOT happen. Will add whenever I hear back from SFD.

Update (also adding above), man in his early 60s, was in stable condition when taken to hospital.

Does anyone know what the “stadium event” at 1:10 p.m. today is? It was on the West Seattle Bridge westbound reader board this morning, but I can’t figure out what it would be.

Mariners preseason game. Sorry, somehow that one didn’t hit our radar, and wasn’t anywhere in the traffic-info channels we monitor!
