TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Thursday watch; ramp closures tonight

(Four WS-relevant views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
7:37 AM: No trouble spots in the area so far this morning. One alert for tonight: Seattle Public Utilities plans to clean storm drains on the bridge overnight, so between 10 pm tonight and 6 am tomorrow (Friday), the 1st Avenue South offramp and onramp on the westbound side will both be closed.

8:33 AM: Still quiet so we’re getting back to Traffic Throwback Thursday. From the Seattle Municipal Archives, November 1962, described only as being related to “Spokane Street widening”:

described only as being related to “Spokane Street widening”

Likely related to construction of the Fauntleroy Expressway. I’m not sure when construction actually started, but it was completed in the early-ish part of 1965.

I’m just a bit too young to clearly remember, although I think I have a vague memory of it not being there at all, and a slightly less vague memory of the columns going up, with the rebar sticking out of the tops. The clearest memory I have, is standing at the corner of 35th, with barricades being up, and asking her when they would be finished. Must have been very close to doing so

First, let me say thanks for these walks down memory lane. It’s been fun.
I remember that building with the airplane from my childhood and also, if you look to the right margin, you will see an old Seattle Transit electric trolley. Wish we still had trolley service in West Seattle.

So do I! And our apologies for skipping last week, things were just out of control for some reason.

And the cranes in background look like they are at the former Lockheed Shipyard (soon to be home of the Shell vessels), where I worked during the early 1980’s. Oh, I just noticed the old Fisher Flour Mill tower over the gas station.

seattletimebandit, I was a delivery driver for a blueprinting company, (they also did offset work, etc, and sold supplies) in the early ’80’s. Delivered to Lockheed occasionally.

Love the throwback pics! Hard to believe that there was a time when Seattle actually widened the roads!

Sorry, comment time is over.
