8:44 AM: First problem of the morning. SDOT reports a crash on the eastbound bridge:

So far, no medical response dispatched for this, so it’s not on the 911 log.

8:53 AM: Update from SDOT – that was cleared quickly; all lanes open.

9:56 AM: Firsthand explanation from the driver whose car was rear-ended – in this comment.

3:22 PM: Last weekend, we mentioned the plan for a partial closure of the Alaskan Way Viaduct this Saturday night. Now, WSDOT says it will close both ways: “The closure – which will last from Saturday, Dec. 6 at 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7 – will allow crews to move heavy equipment across the roadway and conduct survey work on SR 99.”

    Good morning –

    That was my black Cruze that got hit. It happened in Lane 2, approaching from Fauntleroy to the bridge. The driver behind me apparently was changing lanes from lane 2 to lane 4 (Highway 99 onramp) and didn’t see the lineup of cars in Lane 2 abruptly stop.
    This is a common traffic risk that causes near-hits several times a day as drivers weave.
    No injuries.
    We traded info and cleared out before police arrived.

    I passed this scene about 8:45 and thought just for a sec it was a jumper because I saw 3 cars lined up and two people give each other a big hug.

    Mike – Am I seeing things or are you just that awesome?

    Her husband showed up and hugged her. I merely shook hands with them, right before we cleared the scene.
