Update: Extension cord blamed for Sunrise Heights house fire

5:56 PM: Seattle Fire crews are in the 3100 block of SW Webster (map) at a house-fire call. Arriving crews are seeing smoke from the eaves, per an SFD tweet. More to come.

6:01 PM UPDATE: The fire is “knocked down,” per radio communications (and then a moment later, “under control”). No injuries reported. (Yes, that’s a TV helicopter overhead checking it out.)

6:17 PM UPDATE: Our crew at the scene says the fire was confined to one room of the house, but they’re not sure what started it, and they’re going to keep watch for a while in case of flare-ups or hot spots. The couple who live there got out OK, per SFD.

7:39 PM UPDATE: It’s been a busy night for fires around the city (though this is the only major incident in West Seattle so far), so the on-duty fire investigator has just arrived.

9:31 PM UPDATE: SFD says the fire was caused by an “overheated extension cord,” and estimates damage at $45,000.

Thank you for acknowledging the sirens, WSB. It seems like a huge response- I hope everyone is ok.

Standard house-fire response but not a big fire. A TV helicopter is checking out just because, well, they’re on the air, but no injuries are reported and it does not – so far – sound like major damage. Our crew’s there now, should have a photo shortly. – TR

So many Fire Engines, Ladder trucks, etc… They just kept coming and coming… Glad to hear no injuries.

Just heard the copter going over head… sounds like its coming back this way.

I called this in. I caught sight of the smoke on my walk home from the bus stop. The firefighters showed up fast!

Luckily Station 37 is just a block or two away. But good thing you called, likely made a big difference – this is why they send the huge response first for a house-fire report, THEN pull back, because that’s the best chance of averting total disaster …

I definitely will not complain so often about the sirens in the middle of the night!

Big thanks to the Fire Department. They are amazing! I am a neighbor and very thankful they responded so fast and prevented this from getting out of hand. Thanks to you too Ageina.
This house is occupied by a man who is a vagrant of sorts. No “couple” has lived there for years. Anyone who lives in this neighborhood wont be sad if this “house” is torn down.

Appears to be a lot of DIY construction on that property, not sure if that was a factor. Very glad no one was hurt. Many thanks to those who called it in.

Honey boo boo, what an appropriate name, don’t speak for the neighborhood. I don’t want to see any home torn down. We already live in a wasteful society as it is.

I’m a neighbor too and very thankful to everyone involved for their quick action.

As a neighbor, I know that the man who lives in this house is a very nice man and a good person. I’m relieved for him that damages were quickly contained.

Well I’m glad to hear that no one was hurt or injured in this fire!
@Honey Boo Boo I am a fan of the ws blog because of what they offer us in the community keeping us in the know. I’m not shocked by your post because this is what we do..act like we really give a sh*t about the fire, when really all u wanted to do was let us all know in blog land that you dislike your neighbor and couldn’t care less if his house went down in flames, or up in smoke! Who cares if he’s a “vagrant”? Thanks for sharing!
Now I’m gonna offer a share..with a name like Honey Boo Boo It sounds to ME as if your double wide trailer is a glass “house”!!! It could be your house god forbid that has a fire, then where will all of your brothers, cousins kids go? Last I checked there weren’t any trailer parks out here….

Sorry, comment time is over.
