West Seattle Crime Watch: U-Haul to look out for

From Jamie: “On August 14th a 20′ U-Haul van containing ALL of a newly stationed Coast Guard member’s belongings was stolen from SW Hudson and 38th Ave SW. The license plate of the van is Arizona AE28808. Hopefully it will be recovered somewhere with a few of the person’s belongings inside.” If you see it – or have any information – call police.

You’d think U-Haul would have tracking devices in their vehicles…

Does the Coastie need any thing? Maybe we could help in some way.

Where can we donate items to help this victim?

That’s a sucky welcome to town. I’m sorry it happened, and I hope your stuff is found safe and sound ASAP.

One would hope UHaul would have LoJack on their trucks…

I would also like to know if the Coast Guardman is accepting donations.

I just reported a U-Haul truck to U-Haul about 45 minutes ago. This one was just overdue. The number is 1-800-789-3638.

WSB (Tracy/Patrick): Is there a way we can find out if this Coastie needs anything? I have supplies that I can donate. This is a horrible welcome to our community and I would like to make it better some how if I can. Thanks!

All – thank you for your offers. I’ve put out a message to the member to see if they need anything. I’m just waiting to hear back.

Being the wife of a retired Coastie, this makes me irate. To uproot yourself/family every couple of years and re-establish in a new area is something most don’t willingly do. But our military families do, without hesitation, and this is the thanks they get – just sickening. I hope WSB is given info about needed donations so our community can help out.

There was a duffel bag that had been rifled through and abandoned next to Fairmont park (Fauntleroy and Brandon on the west edge of the park) on Thursday morning which is near this location. I called it in to police and they said they were going to send someone out to pick it up. Might be part of the contents? I’m so sorry to hear this, and hope they all turn up.

Just heard over police scanner they think they found U Haul …

  • WSDiva August 17, 2013 (5:37 pm)

@HC: Thanks for the update. Fingers crossed! Anyone hear if the Coastie needs supplies or not?

Earlier today i saw a uhaul with Arizona plates, starting with AE, but didn’t catch the rest of the plate number. Located on corner of 104thSW and 40th. Called police but don’t know if this was the uhaul or not but figured it was worth a call anyway. Either way, I hope it’s found soon!

  • Jamie August 17, 2013 (6:23 pm)

HC, yes, but sadly, not the contents. Someone told me that there will be an update on King 5 in a few minutes.

I found out late yesterday that the truck was packed so the person could move out of Seattle, not in as I had thought. I asked if there was anything we could do, but I think the victim is due to leave the area soon.

So sorry this happened. Someone thought they hit the jack-pot. Not at all surprised found truck was empty. No way to help replace personal items, the biggest loss. Again I’m so sorry for this young man and he can’t even wait around to see if anything might turn up.

If U-haul doesn’t use anti-theft devices on their vehicles they should be required.

Sorry, comment time is over.
