UPDATE: Gray whale off West Seattle again today (photos added)

10:04 AM: The weather’s a lot murkier than Monday, but Kersti Muul says the lone gray whale is “extremely close to shore,” heading north, off Beach Drive, in the Emma Schmitz Overlook/Me-Kwa-Mooks vicinity. See photos in our Monday report if you’re not sure what to look for!

12:05 PM: The gray whale is now off Seacrest (1660 Harbor SW, also home to the Water Taxi dock), according to a comment below.

9:29 PM: Photos by Steven Rice added (thank you!).

Hi! Can anyone recommend a way to get alerts for whale sightings? I truly, truly would love to see a gray whale but I often see these too late. There used to be a WhatsApp group, but I can’t seem to find it anymore. Any suggestions?

Join the Orca Network Community group.  It will give you updates, close to real time.  You can plan to go to the next sighting spot.  I hope that helps you❤️

Look for SALISH WILDLIFE WATCH RESPONSIBLE RECREATION on WhatsApp – there are several groups because WhatsApp limits the number if members per group.

Download the free app Whale Alert and check it a  few times a day. You won’t get proactive notifications, but the sightings are reliable, timely, and publicly available to all.

Disregard the QR code. It says the group link was changed. I can’t figure out how to find the group either.

Sorry, comment time is over.
