TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Friday updates, including West Seattle Summer Fest road, bus changes

(Live view from the east-facing WS Bridge camera; other cameras are on the WSB Traffic page)
Happy Friday! West Seattle Summer Fest begins today, and California SW is already closed between Genesee and Edmunds (except for through traffic on SW Oregon) and along SW Alaska between 44th and 42nd. That means bus changes – check here and/or make note of these direct links to individual routes’ reroute info:
*RapidRide C Line
*Route 22
*Route 37
*Route 50
*Route 55
*Route 57
*Route 128
*Route 773 (Water Taxi shuttle)

The festival officially starts at 10 am today; we’ll have separate previews and live coverage later.

ELSEWHERE IN THE CITY THIS WEEKEND: Other major events are affecting traffic and buses, including Ballard Seafood Fest Saturday/Sunday – the city has a roundup of major events here. And if you are headed anywhere near the Eastside, take note of the double closure – the 520 bridge and part of I-405.

Looking at the 50 reroute, I hope they restricted parking on 44th between Oregon and Genesee. That can be challenging for two cars to pass normally. Especially given the heavier than normal back street traffic…

It would be nice if the buses knew where they were supposed to be stopping. This morning I saw a metro truck placing the temporary bus stop signs up, moving the EB stop at 42nd & Alaska to the corner of 41st And Alaska. However, all the people were waiting at 42nd (despite the signs), and the buses were stopping there too. So if you followed directions and waited at the temporary stop, you ended up running half a block to catch the bus.

Excited for the West Seattle Fest, but way to go Metro, my poor 55 driver wasn’t even told. Luckily I had downloaded all the pdfs from the WS blog, and I’m not shy. Just navigated him through the junction, and announced the stop changes for the weekend to the whole (very grateful) bus!

NicMarie – glad the links helped! We work from the Information Booth during Summer Fest and “where’s the bus stop” is one of the most commonly asked questions, so finally this year I realized it would be beneficial in a variety of ways to get those links on the site … :)

They did restrict the parking the street.

Last night on the C line I had the same experience as others above – our driver didn’t have a clue that the reroute was there until we were at it. He announced, “Well folks, they have the street blocked off here for some reason, I’ll let you out here if you need to.” Took him a while to figure out where to go. I think another driver told him.

Ah, the joys of Metro planning ahead!

Anyone know why sections of the 2700 block of 47th SW have NO PARKING signs posted for 7/12 to 7/15 7am to 7pm? These are posted on the south third of the block.

    Thanks in advance

P, we had similar no parking signs a week or two ago on Fauntleroy (all day for a week) and it turned out that it was for sewer drain maintenance. Don’t know if that is the reason for yours, but it also confused me when it was on a small portion of the block for what seemed like no reason.

Sorry, comment time is over.
