West Seattle High School Marching Band goes international!

Yet another major event in what’s been a milestone year for West Seattle High School musicians; the photo is shared by teacher Ethan Thomas, with this report:

The West Seattle High School Marching Band traveled to Victoria, B.C. last weekend to participate in the Victoria Day Parade. The band performed in the Parade of Bands at the Parliament Building and at Beacon Hill Park in addition to the 115th annual parade that celebrates the birthday of Queen Victoria.

It’s been a big year of parades for the WSHS band – we’ve covered them in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and in the Macy’s Holiday Parade downtown, as well as the West Seattle Junction Harvest Festival Parade. And you can see the WSHS band musicians perform one week from Thursday – stay tuned for details of their June 6th concert.

Nice to see this tradition is back

For many many years the marching band did this under the direction of Donn Weaver (west seattle big band director)

I met my high school sweetheart that I later married on this weekend 35 years ago this week end

Did the Victoria Day parade with my high school twice as well! Such a fantastic experience playing on the parliament steps and getting to lead the band as a drum major past all the tv cameras in the parade. Great memories sight seeing, riding the ferries, and sleeping on the gym floor of an old high school. Can’t believe it’s been 10 years. Do keep us posted where we can check out out local marching band in the future. I’m too far to cheer on my alma mater but will gladly cheer for my new neighborhood!

Does WSHS also do field shows? Love watching those competitions in the fall.

Wow that’s cool, so did Chief Sealth Marching Band. They were there May 18th thru the 20th.

Great! If they had sent a photo or note, we’d have published that too … but I haven’t heard from them in a while (if there are any concerts coming up, please make sure somebody lets us know so we can add them to the event calendar!) – TR
