You asked for it – Car2Go says it’s coming to West Seattle

Thanks to Jason, who just called our attention to the Facebook announcement that Car2Go is committing to West Seattle expansion. No date is mentioned; we’ll be contacting the company to ask, but in case you hadn’t seen it there, we’re noting it here, as its recent arrival in the city generated lots of buzz – and disappointment that West Seattle wasn’t part of the original plan.

    That’s cool.
Now, it might be even more possible for commuters who can use the bus for work to have a carless life while still enjoying all that West Seattle has to offer.
We have a big space over here, and the rest of the city seems to ignore that.

Now we need the City of Seattle to expand the fiber internet roll-out to West Seattle:

As far as Car2Go, I am already signed up but have not used it because they are not in West Seattle. This is great news for me. Maybe I can finally get rid of my car. Between Car2Go and the C-Line I should be pretty much set.

Thanks to those who go carless. I commute by bike 3-4x/wk, but would find it too hard to go carless because of extensive work travel. So I really appreciate those who do. Creative and hardy souls!

I hope this new company makes it easier!

Gregory, West Seattle and Ballard were added to the list of roll-out neighborhoods just two days ago:

Thanks, we ran a separate story about that when it was announced. Also, I just spent half an hour on the phone interviewing G2 and city people for a followup, writing it shortly.

This is great news! It’d be nice to have different options to go downtown aside from bus service out of Admiral (which stops at 9 a.m.) and to return from downtown to Admiral(which is only an option during traditional commute hours).

Parking rules being what they are for Car2Go, I am noticing that there are essentially no cars downtown each afternoon (checking when I miss the bus). Which leads me to worry that I wouldn’t find a downtown valid space if driving in (when I might miss the bus). Has anyone put together a map or list of workable parking spaces (doesn’t convert within 24 hours) anywhere?

Sorry, comment time is over.
