West Seattle Valentine’s Day scene: Cupid 5K on Alki

With costumes and decorations from hearts to wings, runners and walkers gathered on Alki tonight for the first Cupid 5K, a fundraiser for the fight again human trafficking, previewed here last week.

The plan was to split into two groups – the Cupid-lovers and Cupid-haters – and travel separate courses through the area, then meet up for afterparties at Celtic Swell and Alki Starbucks. Organizers told us 121 people had signed up.

Proceeds are going to the anti-trafficking/slavery A21 Campaign.

They’re shining a light on, and bringing up the subject of, human trafficking and I applaud them for that! It may not change things over night, but please keep speaking up!

This truly was an awesome event and a real thrill. Racing through West seattle at dark in an urban setting while trying to avoid ambushes (not a real threat, but in order to win a sweet prize it’s in your best interest to), thinking tactically, and trying outsmart the opposition was a blast. Every participant I spoke to after the event ended said they’d definately do it again next year, and bring friends. I’m looking forward to it!

All fun and games set aside, the cause alone was worth it =)

My fiancé and I participated and we loved it. We are already recruiting friends to join our team next year!

Sorry, comment time is over.
