Across the Duwamish: Plant ‘explosion,’ no one hurt

In case you saw/heard this from east-facing West Seattle, or South Park and vicinity: Seattle Fire had a big response to Airgas (near East Marginal/14th South) earlier this afternoon; it was at first an explosion call, then reduced to “hazmat,” and no one was hurt. We have the story on our partner site The South Park News.

Oh crud, I park next to that place. Hope things are cleaned up in the next hour before I head home. Last place I want to be stuck on a nice day is work.

Tricky – I believe I just heard scanner traffic saying they were clearing the hazmat aspect of it … so I think it’s a safe bet you’ll be OK … they were starting to clear units out a few minutes ago (I haven’t updated the South Park item just yet) .. TR

Do you know what type (IF any) of “hazmat” (Hazardous Material) was involved?

The plant makes acetylene. If that’s not mentioned here, sorry, it’s in the TSPN story. No leak was detected, per SFD, but they had to check to be sure. – TR

Quite alarming. My cheif concern, is that of this having zero to “an extremely small fraction” of environmental harm.

Sorry, comment time is over.
