West Seattle shooting investigation: Police seek witnesses

Though a suspect is behind bars, the investigation continues into Saturday night’s deadly shooting by Morgan Junction Park (original WSB coverage here; yesterday’s court coverage here). Given that the shooting happened near a busy nightlife area barely a block from a major intersection, police believe there may be more witnesses out there, and would like to talk with them. They’re asking that anyone with information contact the Seattle Police Homicide Division: You can leave a message any time on the tip line at 206-233-5000, or you can speak to someone by calling 206-684-5550 (answered 8 am-11 pm).

Obviously Jamie and many others are truly suffering and my heart goes out to them. But…frankly, the facts as presented simply don’t make sense, specifically the shovel element. Why would an even marginally fit 35 year old need a shovel to defend himself against someone nearly twice his age? If the accused had been unarmed the story would have no doubt been about a young guy beating an old guy with a shovel outside a bar and people would be outraged. If Travis did in fact know that the accused was armed with a very lethal .45 caliber handgun, why in the world would he try to go after him with a shovel? Run maybe, but go get a shovel? Either scenario is highly implausible. I suspect that this is why the police are calling for additional witnesses to come forward.

Sorry, comment time is over.
