Followup: SDOT mows overgrown, YouTubed Delridge sidewalk

Keith Ramsey just sent word – again, via Twitter, like the first time – that SDOT, as promised, has been out to take care of the overgrowth on Delridge Way’s east-side sidewalk near the Southwest Precinct and Home Depot. If you missed the original story, he called attention to it by making a video and publishing it on YouTube, as featured in our story from last Friday. And of course, he has created a followup video – YT says it’s still processing; we’ll add it here when it’s done.

3:01 PM: The link has now gone away completely (checking with Keith on that) – but we ran over to the zone in question to photograph (albeit from across the street) the new-mown proof.

11:23 PM: Keith has published an updated video – saying that the spot where the SDOT mowing stopped was short of their property line:

We’ll check with SDOT in the morning.

ADDED MIDDAY THURSDAY: From SDOT’s Rick Sheridan: “Given landscaping needs elsewhere, work like this is sometimes spread over multiple days. Although we were not able to finish mowing yesterday, a crew should be back on site now to complete the work.”

ADDED THURSDAY AFTERNOON: Done, says Keith, tweeting this photo as proof.

Oh, FABULOUS! I live near there, and until I saw Keith’s video, I had assumed there _was_ no sidewalk on the east side of Delridge! (well, for all practical purposes, there wasn’t!) Can’t wait to see it all cleaned up!
    .
Keith, thanks for taking this on, and thanks, WSB, as always for keeping us informed!

NOW ITS TIME FOR YOU WEST SEATTLITES TO GO AND PRUNE BACK THOSE OVERGROWN TREES ON THAT MEDIAN AT YOUR LOCAL INTERSECTION. EVEN IF YOU LIVE A HALF A BLOCK AWAY GO DOWN THERE TODAY OR THIS WEEKEND AND PRUNE A FEW BRANCHES FROM ONE. OR GO PULL SOME WEEDS FROM THE BEDS SO WHEN ONCOMING TRAFFIC APPROACHES YOU CAN SEE CLEARLY PEOPLE ESPECIALLY YOUNGSTERS CROSSING THE STREET.
    THANK YOU :O).

Which median are you even referring to?

IN GENERAL OR HEAD TO WHITE CENTER, WHICH I HAPPEN TO LOVE. “ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY”. BETTER or worse??

QUESTION TO WSB. I WAS WALKING THE OTHER DAY AND NOTICED ALONG THE GUTTER OF EDMONDS AND CALIFORNIA OPPOSITE OF TERRIBLE BEAUTY BASICALLY IT WAS LITTERED WITH GRAVEL. WHICH I FOLLOWED TO ITS SOURCE AROUND THE CORNER AND UP THE ALLEY A PRIVATE RES DRIVEWAY. WHO DOES ONE GET AHOLD OF TO REPORT SUCH CASES. THE STORM DRAIN WAS TOTALLY CAPPED TOO ON CALIFORNIA AND EDMONDS. THAT CAN BE A SLICK ONE IN THE WINTER WITH POOLING WATER WHICH FREEZES.

    • WSB July 6, 2011 (8:14 pm)

DF – if affecting a drain, call Seattle Public Utilities. should be a customer service number somewhere at http://seattle.gov/util

  • datamuse July 6, 2011 (7:28 pm)

    I think DF’s capslock is broken…

  • John July 6, 2011 (7:31 pm)

Agreed. But, perhaps folks should cut first their own lawns – it’s truly embarrassing the number of homeowners, tenants, landlords and managers in WS that take no pride in keeping their yards maintained. Drive around – ‘slum’ level homes and complexes are popping up everywhere at depressing speed.

Unfortunately it appears that they left the “private owned” portion unmowed. They should have mowed it and then billed the property owner….

    • WSB July 6, 2011 (8:12 pm)

I don’t think they can legally do that. Would just have to report it to the DPD like any overgrown right-of-way adjacent to private property … then threaten fines, etc. … TR

    • WSB July 6, 2011 (10:28 pm)

No prob, just something people wouldn’t always think of .. We get lots of photos of car crashes, fires, police cars, which is TERRIFIC and much appreciated, but if you, or someone in your family, or somebody you pass on the street, happens to be doing a good deed, we’d love to get a pic of that too (or let us know when it’s happening and we’ll do our best to come by) … TR

Frankly I am stunned at all of the effort put into the u tube video of this pathway, if you are so concerned why wait until it is this overgrown to make a video etc…
This should have been called in long before it got to this stage. The departmant of transportation is very responsive to these types of requests.
There is a sidewalk on the other side of the street, why would people not use that sidewalk. It just does not make sense…

Then there is the second u tube video… what is up with that.
Give them a chance to finish the job…

Who owns the properties in question? The city can’t or won’t force the owners to take care of this?

    • WSB July 7, 2011 (9:51 am)

You can use the King County Parcel Viewer to see who owns any given piece of property anywhere in the county. But generally, somebody has to complain about overgrowth, and then an inspector from DPD will go out, decide if it’s in violation, issue a notice, process ensues … I believe there’s an online form for filing complaints. Sorry, no time to look up links, but they’re easily Googlable (or Bingable if you prefer).

  • Caker July 7, 2011 (10:27 am)

    Omg the cut some grass!!
The roads there have been ignored from maintinance since 1985

  • Cheryl July 7, 2011 (10:27 am)

There is an awesome new app (for iPhone, Android, RIM, and FB) called SeeClickFix that we should ALL be using here in Seattle…
    .
Quote: “SeeClickFix helps users report non-emergency issues to the appropriate government agency….”
    .
Check out the article on Mashable.com: http://mashable.com/2011/06/29/seeclickfix/

    • WSB July 7, 2011 (11:23 am)

Cheryl – the city has lots of ways to report these things; SCF inserts an unnecessary middleperson into the loop. Unless the city itself was working with them, you might as well just go straight to the city, which is then directly accountable to let you know what’s being done. (I had asked the city CTO, a West Seattleite, quite some time back if they were mulling working with SCF, and they were not. It’s been around a few years.) Here, now that I have a sec, is the DPD complaint form. Anyone concerned about the overgrown sidewalk there or anywhere else (or any other kind of code violation) – http://web1.seattle.gov/dpd/complaintform

do you mean that if we take some pictures of the cowpaths seattle calls primary streets the fishing holes will get filled or fixed????????????? they are way past being called potholes….

    • WSB July 10, 2011 (8:03 am)

First step, call it in. 684-ROAD. If you’ve already done that multiple times for some particular stretch and no action, hey, send a pic. Make a video. Gather picketers. Or whatever else, legal, you think makes sense.

Sorry, comment time is over.
