Citywide traffic alerts: This weekend’s advisories from SDOT

As usual, the city’s out with its weekend traffic advisory for big events – just so you’ll know what to expect. Not that you want to go TOO far – this weekend’s big events here include West Seattle Outdoor Movies‘ seasonal debut on Saturday (“Ferris Bueller” at dusk) and the West Seattle Garden Tour on Sunday (plus, next door in White Center, the Jubilee Days Street Fair all weekend) – but in case you have to leave, here’s what SDOT sent late today, after the jump:

Seafair activities abound this coming weekend, July 15 – 17, featuring fun, food, ethnic festivals and sports. Offering up something for everyone, the events range from the ever-popular Bite of Seattle, Seafair Indian PowWow Days, and Japanese Bon Odori, to races, soccer and baseball. For more details about these and many other weekend events, please see the schedule below.

Motorists should allow extra time for possible traffic delays. With the goal of reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions, the Seattle Department of Transportation encourages event-goers to consider leaving the car behind and trying one of the many alternate modes of transportation available – Metro Transit, the West Seattle Water Taxi, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, car pool, bicycle or even walking, if feasible.

Frustrating getting a 56 bus to WS tonight at 1st and Altantic tonight – One-Bus-Away site said it was inbound (but late) but it never came. Was too early for the post Mariners reroute so opted to take a cab since I had a 5 year old with me.

Robert, the same thing happened to us recently. I had to drive down there to pick up my family because they waited an hour and a half for a bus that didn’t come. It was 11pm when I got them. We won’t take metro ever again if any part of the trip could possibly involve waiting at a bus stop at night.

It is very peculiar that Metro thinks they should reroute the 56/21 routes AWAY from where the game attendees would want to get the bus. I think the big problem with the non Express 56 is that it doesn’t start downtown so any delays from the inbound route really get compounded.

Sorry, comment time is over.
