West Seattle traffic update: Bridge backup

Not a surprise, given the Alaskan Way Viaduct closure (and other traffic effects of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon) – but in case you were hoping for better – sorry! Just got that photo via Twitter from @206sportsfan. The Viaduct is supposed to be fully open again by 4 this afternoon.

Just came westbound on the bridge, the eastbound lanes are jammed as far as you can see up the hill..

3:20 pm Viaduct must have opened early. Free and clear.

How about we just tear down the viaduct and replace it with mass transit and bike lanes?

For my girlfriend and I, the frequency and the unpredictable nature of traffic jams on the bridge are probably going to result in us having to move north of downtown within the next year or so. We’ve come to love this area and hate leaving, but I will need to get to UW in the mornings and allotting an hour or more to make that commute is ridiculous.

It’s easy to think that the traffic situation here has a real dampening effect on the local economy.

Sorry, comment time is over.
