11 ‘no insurance proof’ drivers cited in Highland Park Way patrol

Seattle Police have published another update on what the Aggressive Drivers Response Team has been up to. This one was a two-parter – one North Seattle, one West Seattle. For the latter, they worked on Highland Park Way yesterday – with the list of citations (see it here) said to include 11 uninsured drivers people driving without proof of insurance.

Oh boy…scares me. Our car was hit and totaled by a driver at Holden/HP Way (hit and run, but the caught him trying to coast backwards down HP Drive early Sunday am) and we still haven’t gotten the police report yet. I’m so hoping he has insurance….and isn’t one of these scofflaws :(

Could be the insurance card was expired or not in the car. It doesn’t prove that every driver had no current insurance coverage. 55 mph on Highland Park Way is crazy.

Damn people! They hit you and you are SOL!

Tee – I realize not every driver is uninsured. I do realize that the a$$ that hit our car at 440 on Sunday morning WAS speeding (as were the people caught on Monday) and I just hope he wasn’t one of the 11 uninsured types.

I guess it hit a little too close to home (pun intended). I’m thrilled they are patrolling that area. Anything to make the neighborhood safer. And yes….55 is stupid crazy.

Uninsured drivers do not belong on the roads. I think it should be mandatory that drivers provide proof of insurance before renewing vehicle tabs or drivers licenses.

Nice job SPD, please keep it up!

I better make sure I have my insurance card where I can find it. We are fully insured…where is that stupid card? Hopefully it’s where it’s supposed to be!

I drive HP Way twice every day and people pull all kinds of crazy things…tailgating, weaving, and going way too fast. I’m glad ADRT was there.

I agree with Tee…. the title of the article implies that all of the drivers were “uninsured”. Just because a person doesn’t have a valid insurance card in their car does not mean they weren’t insured. I appreciate the ADRT officers work. What’s the hurry? Drive the speed limit!

Yeah, OK, these 11 idiots who were speeding all just forgot an insurance card. Seriously, really, you’re wasting your time nitpicking this? Maybe for laughs, we should track the disposition of these citations so you’ll feel better knowing all 11 are great upstanding citizens.

Don’t hold your breath on the WS ‘blog’ doing any follow-up on any of these type of reports posted.

@ John – Why so crabby?? Don’t you appreciate Tracy’s hard work – lot better than any other “journalsim” in town.

    What’s your beef?

No appreciation required. But no, I’m not going to be tracking these citations, not that I have numbers or names anyway – what this is, is what it is: Us reporting that SPD reports that they have cited X number of people for X.
      .
There’s a lot of news on which we report that all but demands a followup, and even at that, we can barely scratch the surface, because so much else roars in … Just to get the name of those arrested in bigger cases requires extra resources deployed, as it’s not available in online police reports, and I can’t just call someone and say “hey, tell me the name.” Then once the name is obtained, frequent checking of the court system is required – there are about half a dozen people I’m watching right now, and in most cases there are half a dozen minor court appearances between arrest and disposition, consisting of “well, judge, we need another delay” – but if it’s a closely watched case, I go downtown to court anyway. Spent the whole day working from a courtroom bench a couple months ago because Lincoln Park attack suspect Duane Starkenburg was supposed to appear – at day’s end, finally found out he’d been delayed till the next day. Which meant another trip downtown. And so on. Only so many hours in a day. On to a couple followups right now … from development to medical marijuana – TR

Come on it’s vehicle owners responsibilty to make sure they have a current proof of insurance card I’m their car. I’ll bet only 1 or 2 of the 11 actually have ins. Everytime I see a $500 car on the road I think to myself how could they have insurance it would cost more than the car.

JOHN >>>> I or my husband have been hit 4 times (over a 40 year period) My son 2 times (16 year period) NOT ONE person that hit us has had car insurance and yes, it all happened in West Seattle … So, I beileve there are more people without insurance then you may realize! Thank God we had insurance (I hate paying for other’s foolishness!) Hopefully you won’t be hit by them!!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
