Watching the World Cup in West Seattle: The list, version 1.4

(NOTE: Updated repeatedly since first publication; thanks to Nancy for the added research)

More than a few people requested a list of West Seattle establishments that plan to have the World Cup on their bigscreens as play begins this week (here’s the schedule) – and it also came up in the WSB Forums. So WSB contributor Keri DeTore started investigating. The following venues say they’ll be showing World Cup games during their regular business hours, unless otherwise noted – such as Abbondanza, Angelina’s and Beveridge Place Pub, which will be open some special hours for viewing. (For hours/contact info, we have linked establishment names to their website – except for those that do not have readily locatable sites, in which case we’ve used other online listings). Click ahead for the list (and let us know if there’s someplace we’re missing!):

Abbondanza — All games shown live – (added) that means they’re open 4:30 am – serving non-alcohol drinks at 4:30 am, alcohol at 6 am, food at 11 am, minors are welcome

Here is an awesome schedule that shows what matches will be televised and their local times:

Thanks – I have a customizable-by-time-zone schedule linked in the item already but if this one is better, I’ll take your word for it. Took a bit of looking to find something that wasn’t an opportunist SEO-maximizing “weight loss white teeth WORLD CUP SCHEDULE” type of link – TR

  • WesCAddle June 10, 2010 (12:15 pm)

    Hi TR,

IMHO this schedule is pretty nice. No ads that I can tell (but I run pretty strong ad-blocking software). Feel free to delete the link if it is no good. ;)

Nope, I appreciate it, it’s just that though we do extensive inline linking in almost everything we publish, some folks don’t always realize that blue text means “this is a link” – all chosen by hand, no automated “ha ha, we fooled you, this is a generic link or sales pitch” stuff – so I always make note of same. BTW I should have mentioned this, I hear there will be a big game under way during part of the Morgan Junction Festival on Saturday, so we are going to try to keep track of the score on a little tote board at our table :) for anyone who leaves the TV and comes by – TR

Is the Corner Pocket going to show the games. This is a good place to watch the Premier League games, so was hoping they would be showing the world cup

    • WSB June 10, 2010 (2:01 pm)

We’re checking – someone else just pointed out that might be an omission on our list – thanks! TR

    WSB-
You need a new graphic for this topic…

    Check it out

I spent half an hour looking for a graphic that had open permission for anyone to use. Looked all through FIFA World Cup logos, etc. and wikimedia. Could not find one. Anyone who can, I appreciate the help – at some point looking for a graphic takes away from the time spent researching and writing the news, and answering queries, and I have to cut the losses and go for something simple. Thanks! – TR

Sunday quick summary: 4:30 am = Algeria vs. Slovenia. 7:00 am = Serbia vs. Ghana. 11:30 am = Germany vs. Australia (this should be an amazing match!)

wanna give props to Beveridge Place Pub — they’ve got a full house to handle with the USA v UK game and they’re doing well. great atmosphere and great beer.

  • Katie K June 13, 2010 (2:46 pm)

Although not in West Seattle, Jimmy’s on First by the stadiums opens at 6am and will have all the games on their large tvs. Plus breakfast is great and they are running specials for the games.

  • Agen Schmitz June 14, 2010 (5:40 am)

A big thanks to Robert at Abbondanza for his welcoming presence at 4:30am for this morning’s Holland game.

  • Steve C. June 14, 2010 (7:56 am)

Brickyard BBQ has two sweet flatscreens and outdoor seating with nice, loud Bose speakers for the audio. Open at 11am for games.

  • mike June 14, 2010 (8:03 pm)

Aside from the ones Nancy listed above that are opening early, does anyone know if there any others that will be opening early for the 7am US v Slovenia match this Friday (6/18)?

  • mike June 17, 2010 (4:49 pm)

Freshy’s will be open and showing the 7am US vs Slovenia game.

    • WSB June 17, 2010 (4:54 pm)

Thanks, I’m writing an item to run tonight mentioning that for the top of the page – got a note from Amber a little bit ago.

  • Jennie June 18, 2010 (9:43 am)

Corner Pocket! They’re a sports bar and they’re not on here? Plus, you can’t beat Tommy’s corny jokes and Jimmy’s eggs/mushrooms/beans on toast rocks!! The disallowed goal this morning was a tragedy, but at least I was among friends…

  • Jennie June 18, 2010 (9:50 am)

P.S. open for all games 7am and after!

    • WSB June 18, 2010 (10:01 am)

Somebody had checked and told us that they weren’t showing the games, which seemed odd but … If you were there, that’s firsthand, better info. They actually were on the list till we were told they weren’t showing the games. Will fix.

  • theresa July 4, 2010 (3:20 pm)

Does anyone know if the final match will be re-broadcast in the evening for us poor saps that have to work on July 11th?

Sorry, comment time is over.
