Lots of talented athletes playing for West Seattle’s high schools, and while we can’t promise you every-game-all-the-time coverage just yet, we’re working on spring-sports coverage, with some help. Two games to report from Friday – Chief Sealth beat Nathan Hale 6-5 (our partners at the Seattle Times have stats here) at SW Athletic Complex in Westwood, and West Seattle High School beat Ingraham at home. WSHS assistant baseball coach Scott Meaker has again written up the Westside highlights for us to share with you – those are ahead, along with a reminder about tonight’s WSHS baseball/fastpitch fundraising dinner, and today’s WSHS-Seattle Lutheran JV game – read on!

West Seattle High School Varsity Baseball hosted the Ingraham Rams for a Metro League, Sound Division game. The game was played at West Seattle ’s home field, the newly refurbished Hiawatha Sports Complex. West Seattle won the game 14-4 in 6 innings.

Freshman Sam Hellinger started the game on the mound for WS, earning the win. He went 3 1/3 innings, allowing 4 runs. Senior Ryan Wernli replaced him and pitched a very respectable 1 2/3 innings without allowing any runs. Sophmore Jeff Freeman sealed the victory with a final inning of work, throwing less than a dozen pitches to complete end the game. Once again, senior Trevor Martin had a great day at the plate, hitting 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 3 RBI’s. Helping in the offensive attack was senior Stephan Adams who went 4 for 5 with 5 RBI’s and newly called up Freshman LaTrey Newsome who went an amazing 4 for 4 in his varsity debut. West Seattle Varsity Baseball is now 4 -1.

Note: The JV game scheduled to be played at Ingraham HS was cancelled by Ingraham due to lack of players. Possible rescheduling is being looked into. The JV plays Seattle Lutheran (this) morning at 9:30 AM.

West Seattle Baseball and West Seattle HS Softball are hosting their annual Spaghetti Dinner and Auction Gala tonight at the High School (3000 California Ave SW ). (see related story 3/26 WSB ). A No-Host Cocktail and Social hour starts at 5 PM at St. John’s Episcopal Church next door to the high school and the doors to The Commons in the high school open at 5:30 to start the silent auction and to start serving dinner. Dinner tickets are $12 per person and children 5 and under are free. Come join the ladies and gentlemen of West Seattle High School and support their athletic teams.

Thanks again to Coach Meaker – remember, we appreciate school reports of all kinds, from sports to academics and more – as well as advance notice of events we can get on the calendar (it’s never TOO early to send an event announcement!) – here are the ways to share the info.
