Brianne Goulet and Anna Hobby combined for 39 of the Wildcats’ 51 points to lead their team to victory over the rival Chief Sealth Seahawks, earning West Seattle (1-7, 3-10) their first Metro Conference victory of the season Wednesday night at West Seattle High School.

More highlights – with video – ahead:

Chief Sealth was paced by Natalie Mackey’s 14 points, while Jasmine Walker contributed 11 to help the Seahawks keep the game close through three quarters. Trailing by three late in the third quarter, Goulet and teammate Ja’Narah McRae scored consecutive baskets, with McRae’s coming just before the buzzer sounded to end the period. The Wildcats would ride that momentum swing to victory.

Goulet was a force on both sides of the floor, leading all scorers with 22 and charged with keeping Mackey, Sealth’s top offensive threat, in check.

It was Hobby, however, who made the big plays down the stretch, scoring a late bucket to give the Wildcats a 49-41 lead with just over one minute left to play. On the ensuing Sealth possession, Goulet rebounded a miss and hit Hobby with a long outlet pass. Hobby drew an intentional foul by driving to the basket, sealing the fate of the Seahawks (0-8, 1-12).

“I was proud of our girls in the second half,” said Wildcat head coach Juan Price, “because they took their time, hit their free throws and executed. As the game progressed, they gained confidence and got the win.”

Two more clips:

West Seattle will attempt to make it two in a row when they host Cleveland Friday night, while Chief Sealth will host Nathan Hale. Both games are slated to start at 6:15 pm. (Here’s our story on the Tuesday night WSHS-Sealth boys’ game.)
