West Seattle wildlife: Seals on the shore, raccoon on the rocks

Just hours after the latest message from Seal Sitters (read it here) about an increasing number of pups on West Seattle shores, and the need for everyone to help them survive, we got a raft of incredibly cute photos from Greg Wright, who photographed a couple around mid-afternoon and said that Seal Sitters were with them:

Also this afternoon along West Seattle shores, Bill Bacon photographed this masked marauder:

NOT close to the seal pups, so far as we know.

Hey! What’s with the tailess raccoons? I’ve seen a bunch around here, and it’s just kindof weird-looking.

That’s funny. I saw a coyote this weekend running down my street with about 10 raccoon tails in its mouth…

When raccoons fight over territory, sometimes they get their tails bit off. This is hard on the raccoon as they store fat in their tails for wintering over. If there are a lot of tail less coonies in your area, it is most likely over saturated and they are arguing for habitat.
