New WSB feature: 5 minutes to edit your comment

computer.jpgA Saturday night comment reminded us we’d been meaning to add this feature, so now we have: In addition to being able to preview your comment before it’s published, you now get a 5-minute window to edit it, after you publish it. No log-in required; the comment system otherwise works the same way it always has. Once you’ve posted the comment, you’ll see a countdown clock ticking down that 5-minute editing period, during which you can use a button to the left of the countdown clock to open an editing window (click “more options” to edit the screen name and/or URL you used with the comment).

And it works on an iPhone!

Thanks for testing – I assume with the iPhone-specific browser? (Which by the way can be bypassed with a link at the bottom of the page, if you’re viewing on an iPhone and you want to see it the “regular” way.) — TR

Exactly..I do switch from the iPhone browser to go to the “Forums”. It would be nice to access the forums via the iPhone? Maybe it already exists and I’m just missing something?

That’s a legacy of the fact that the forums are kind of an add-on, grafted onto the main site; there’s likely a way to get them grafted onto the iphone browser too but we haven’t figured it out yet; however, we do have an iPhone **app** in development and integrating top forum content is one of the features we requested … TR

Yay! Thanks for adding this feature!

    .

I use the Preview feature religiously, even on short comments, but still end up with the occasional typo that I don’t catch before hitting “Post”. It’ll be nice to have a little extra leeway for making corrections.

ETA: And it really, really, Works!!

Leronious – to get to the forums through the iPhone you just have to navigate directly there: http://www.westseattleblog.com/blog/forums

I just have it bookmarked separately.

Would you be willing to look at deploying a text-only browser link for those of us who periodically check the blog from non-iphone phones? Even a PDA doesn’t download well and pops up warnings about content that can’t be displayed. I’d LOVE to be able to go to a “mobile.wsb.com” type link to see what’s going on without the videos, pictures, etc. It’s fairly common – facebook, livejournal, and all major news sites have a text version for quick downloading on phones and PDAs.

Additionally, this would make the site fully accessible to those with low vision, which I’m sure you’d want. :)

Not sure how this helps the ones that WSB removes for no reason?

I have been looking for something along those lines that is compatible with the iphone browser. If I don’t find it first, the forthcoming iPhone app (no ETA yet though) is along those lines.
