It’s become a Thursday tradition this summer – SDOT’s roundup of where in Seattle you’ll find big events, and how they might affect traffic. (Reminder – as we reported yesterday, the King County Water Taxi will have extra runs for tonight’s Sounders match and Saturday’s Seahawks game.) Read on —

Summer may be winding down, but the festivities continue
this coming weekend, August 22-23. The Seattle Department of
Transportation (SDOT) advises motorists to plan on heavy traffic around
the various weekend activities. SDOT encourages Seattle residents and
visitors attending the weekend events to consider going “car-free”
and trying other modes of travel such as walking, cycling or taking the
bus.

Saturday, August 22
Magnolia Auto Show: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
175 expected
Streets closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.: W McGraw St (32nd Avenue W –
34th Avenue W) and 33rd Avenue W (W Lynn Street – W Wheeler Street).

Seattle’s Chinatown-International District Night Market: 6 p.m. –11 p.m.
1,000 expected
To be held at Hing Hay Park. Streets closed from 3 p.m. – Midnight: S
King Street (Sixth Avenue S – Maynard Avenue S).

Seattle Celebrating Life Dragon Boat Festival: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
1,000 expected
To be held at Magnuson Park; no street closures, but traffic may be
heavy near the park entrance.

Central Area Community Festival: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
1,000 expected
To be held at Garfield Community Playfield (2223 E Cherry Street); no
street closures, but expect heavy traffic in the surrounding area.

Seattle Seahawks versus Denver Broncos (pre-season game): 7:30 p.m.
45,000 expected

Sunday, August 24
Seattle Celebrating Life Dragon Boat Festival: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
1,000 expected
To be held at Magnuson Park; no street closures, but traffic may be
heavy near the park entrance.

Seattle Sounders Football Club 3-on-3 Beach Soccer Tournament: 10 a.m.– 8 p.m.
150 expected
To be held at Alki Beach; no street closures, but traffic may be heavy along Alki Avenue SW.

Lake Union 10K race: 7:30 p.m.
400 participants
Race starts and finishes in the off-street parking area at Westlake
Avenue N and Aloha Street; race course is on sidewalks, bike trails and
streets clockwise around Lake Union. There will be no street closures,
however, traffic may be congested on streets adjacent to the lake.

Summer Sundays on Pike Place: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
1,000 expected
Streets surrounding Pike Place Market may have heavy traffic.
