Check your can: Trash/recycling pickup-change notices arriving

Thanks to Bob Loblaw for sending word – and pic – of the notice taped to his trash can after this morning’s pickup: In his Fairmount Park neighborhood, at least, Monday pickup will move to Tuesday as of the week of March 30th. We have Monday pickup here in Upper Fauntleroy too, but have NOT received any such notice, so we’re not assuming everyone with Monday pickup is switching to Tuesday – just wanted to remind you to start checking your receptacles (the city says you should get a notice no later than March 23). This is all part of the package of big changes including weekly yard waste/food waste pickup (other recycling will remain every-other-week), no more glass separation for recycling, additional materials allowed in recycling (like aluminum foil) etc. — all detailed here.

I think that’s weekly yard waste, not weekly recycling pickup.

It’s all recycling in a way but will stretch it out for crystal clarity, thanks – TR

Your new collection day is also indicated on the flyer that was sent in the mail. The new day is directly above your name and address.
Also, the latest utilities bill is a bit confusing because there are 2 different charges for garbage and 2 different charges for yard waste. I called to clarify and was told that the first charge is at the old rate for period dating 3-1-09 to 3-29-09. The second charge is at the new rate for period dating 3-30-09 to 5-1-09.

We were Monday pick up for trash, recycling and yard waste and the flyer we received over the weekend said we would stay Mondays. You can also check on SPU’s website for your (potentially) new pick up day.

SPU says new collection days won’t be listed till after the 30th, online. I just tested to make sure that was so and after the March calendar that comes up
    http://www2.cityofseattle.net/util/services/calendar/DrawCalender.asp?PC=226557&FC=B&D=2
if you try to advance to April, you get a screen that says “check back after March 30th.” If anyone finds a secret place to get the new collection dates online, let me know and we’ll add the link.

Like dq the flier that we got in the mail said that our Monday pickup day would stay the same for trash, yard waste, and recycling.

Bob Loblaw? Someone has been watching too much arrested development.

I get that comment a lot, Barry. Apparently some TV people decided to make fun of my name (I get it – hardy har har). It’s an unfortunate moniker, but I am proud of the many Loblaw family achievements. We take pride in the multiple businesses we’ve built in Canada and the 150,000 people we employ.

Our collection day is changing from Friday to Tuesday (Westwood Village). May take me some time to adjust.

There really IS a Bob Loblaw? I’m naming my next dog after you. Say it fast three times people…
Also, Barry, you can never watch too much Arrested Development. Look for the movie this year, ya!

Received the flier telling the new pickup date, changes to items included in each can, and changes in can sizes. We decided we needed different sized cans so I went as directed to the web site to make the changes. I couldn’t – a choice of yard/kitchen waste was not offered. So I made the phone call. There I was told that since the change wouldn’t happen until April that requesting a new can is too soon. I guess making changes in can sizes is not to happen until the changes in pickup procedures take place.

Sorry, comment time is over.
