Update: Police search in Highland Park

Just received multiple e-mails about a police search in Highland Park/White Center that may involve a car that’s up on the curb at 9th and Roxbury (that’s according to Tom; CatP wrote in the WSB Forums “something about a suspect run to the ground in the 9200 block of 13th SW; another forum post says police told neighbors the person they’re looking for is NOT armed). Working to find out information now. Anything you’re seeing or hearing, please add in comments. 8:58 PM UPDATE: Scene was clear when we went through but Zack has the scoop in comments: Stolen car crashed into house, suspect caught. Thanks, Zack!

What a scene! I live on the 9200 block of 13th. I was out for a jog when I was stopped by an officer in a KC Sheriff cruiser at the intersection of 12th and Henderson. Seems I matched the description of the suspect.

The police had blocked off 12th and 13th between Cambridge and Barton. There were police cars stationed at each intersection and in the middle of the blocks as well.

A police officer wouldn’t allow me to cross Barton street. He said, “There is a police dog in there and I don’t want to see you get bit.”

The officer said that the suspect crashed a stolen car into a house. (I have no idea to what extent the house was damaged, if at all.)

My wife, who was returning home from work, arrived just in time to watch the police apprehend the suspect. He was traveling north on the alley between 12th and 13th with police in hot pursuit. There was nowhere for him to go, seeing as the police had the place completely locked down.

    Good guys: 1. Home-wrecking car thieves: 0.

    Yay SPD!

Thanks for the update. That explains why there was no scanner traffic when we plugged into it – they’d caught the culprit. Scene clear when we went by later.

Thanks, Zack! I saw the scene on the way home — a veritable melange of police cars! Go law enforcement!

Wow sounds they did an amazing job of cornering the guy. I can’t believe how many cop cars I saw when trying to get home.

    I’m going to guess meth.

Nice work Seattle’s finest, if only we had a close-by jail facility to cage this miscreant.

Why do we need a jail when there’s a perfectly good cement plant and deep-water sound nearby?

    Great job.
I was surprised by the amount of patrol cars. SeaTac, Burien, and Seattle. It made me feel pretty safe I must say. Plus I live in a veritable fortress thanks to the previous homeowner. Those bars may be unsightly, but when it’s lockdown time— which can be frequent living so close to Roxbury. Seeing streets blocked off here and watching them apprehend the bad guy, can be a regular occurence.

The guy was arrested in my neighbor’s yard. My husband looked out and saw cops in our backyard with flashlights. Was definitely intense.

Sorry, comment time is over.
