West Seattle Weather Watch: Fri.-Sat. snow, Sun. megafreeze

The National Weather Service’s latest “forecast discussion” has the closest analysis of what’s on the way, and while the Friday night snow likelihood is not PROJECTED to “accumulate” in the city, for Saturday they say “an inch or two” can’t be “rule(d) out.” Read the forecast discussion here (it’s usually updated three or four times daily – gets a bit technical but has better context); elsewhere, meteorologist Cliff Mass calls it a “difficult” forecast but says never mind about those short-lived wind worries. Even more than snow, the coming low temperatures have local government agencies worried (down to 20ish here Sunday morning!) – so they’re redistributing “protect yourself” type information like this.

Just FYI, new AFDs (Area Forecast Discussions) tend to come out around 9:30 and 3:30, both AM and PM.

I know – was going to use those times but frankly they move around a bit sometimes and they’ll be early or late so I settled on 4x daily :) will be watching avidly for the next one in a time like this, though! – TR

Meanwhile, weather.com has no mention of snow whatsoever for our zipcode – they say it will be heavy rain and wind on Friday, but the word snow isn’t even mentioned until Sunday’s forecast. I’ve decided I will believe them and that we will have no snow. :)

I love living in a place where +20 (rather than -20) is considered a “megafreeze”!!

Caution: Attempting to mix chili with whoopee can result in disaster. Consult your physician.

20 IS NOT COLD. Just be thankful you don’t live where they have real winters.

  • WSB December 11, 2008 (1:55 pm)

well, it is cold for those of us who grew up in warmer climes, warmer than this. I will always remember the first time I was within shouting distance of the actual freezing point – a Christmas visit to family in Las Vegas decades ago, while we were living in Honolulu. This having been pre-Interwebs, of course, the only way I could keep checking the temperature was to call the telephone number for “time and temp” — which I did, repeatedly, till I heard the recorded voice say “32 degrees at (whatever time).” – TR, weather geekette
