Equally sharing this project all along has been Paul, my partner, friend, husband and sounding-board. It’s been an interesting, rewarding and at times, frustrating, experience and I am so grateful it was shared not only with him, but with so many in this community.

By the way, the Christmas Brick Special is back on now and we’ve reduced the price back down to $100 per brick or 3 bricks for the price of 2! A great Christmas present! Go to http://www.sealady.org and print off an order form for a brick or plaque. Brick sales will end on December 31, 2008, but plaques will be sold until they are gone, and then, that’s it. It’s done!!

In addition to these 4″ x 8″ bricks, we are selling 15 new bronze plaques (5″ x 7″)that will be placed in the 15 concrete segments that run parellel to the promenade and form the open boarder of the plaza. We are calling these “Tribute Plaques” and are intended for honoring people or sharing a thought or feeling that seems befitting of this special place. The plaques are selling for $2000, the same price as the Landscape Plaques in Phase I. If you are interested in buying a plaque, please call me, Libby Carr, at 206-938-8721. Thanks.

I’m so happy to see Ken Shaw finally honored for his dedication to Schmitz Preserve. He puts in countless hours (for years) – often working by himself – for no other reason than his love of that special place.
Good work, Ken. Your hard work has restored and preserved this beautiful old-growth park for all of us to enjoy.

Congrats to Ken Shaw and I’d like to say thank you for all his work and dedication. It’s because of him that Schmitz Preserve retains its specialness.

Ken Shaw more than earned this award & recognition, not only by his own hard work, but also by inspiring others to get involved in preserving Schmitz Preserve. Let’s give him a hand in this task whenever we can.

Congratulations to all winners of this year’s Parks Department Volunteer Awards! Thanks for your contributions to improving the community environment for all of us.

My wife and I would like to add a personal note of thanks to Paul & Libby Carr for letting us play a small part in the new Alki Statue of Liberty Plaza. Without their dedication and hard work, the Alki Community and the City of Seattle would have missed out on the opportunity of adding a great new public space to our park system.

We wanted to add our congratulations to Ken Shaw and Steve McElhenney for all their work on behalf of Parks. Like a lot of folks, we’ve noted Ken Shaw spending day after day quietly going about the work of making our Parks better; that is true service to the community.
Speaking of thanks, we also wanted to thank the Hutchinsons for all they have done in keeping the brick inventory. It has been a massive and tedious work, and Dave and Eilene have done it all with quiet grace and efficiency. Thanks entirely to their efforts, anyone with a brick can find out right where it is in the plaza by just using the map they developed. It’s at http://www.sealady.org/locations.pdf.
Again, thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this a success. Bless you all.
    Paul & Libby Carr
