After noticing SDOT work at the California/Charlestown signals two days running, we checked to see what it was about — left turn? or? — and just got the answer: They’re installing “audible pedestrian-signal pushbuttons.”

Thats great ! There are several vision impared people that live in the area that will benefit greatly from this.
Myself and the car infront of me waited through three light changes to try to turn left on to Charlestown about 6 PM the other day. This is a very busy intersection and could benefit from a controlled left. The volume heading south on CA in the evenings is basically non stop so trying to make a left is difficult. Out of frustration, people cut through 7-11 which is illegal and is dangerous too. This area has become so much more populated with apartment buildings, new businesses, and the mass condo Ca Ave plan that has been in full force these past few years … but no improvements to the traffic control devices except this audible one . I’m not surprised though.
Do Three Rights Make a Left?
Old Wive’s tale says that the phone company used to train employees to never make left turns, only right turns. Seems that making left turns results in significantly more accidents.
Seems like taking a short run around the block to avoid a frustrating and dangerous light might be the easy way out.
I’m just sayin’…..
Sorry, comment time is over.
