Full Starbucks closure list now out, including Jefferson Square

As first reported here last week, the Jefferson Square Starbucks (the standalone store at the NW corner, not the “licensee” stand in the Safeway) is on the list of 600 company-owned stores that will close. Starbucks just released the full official list today. It’s the only West Seattle Starbucks on the list, which includes six other stores in Seattle: 328 15th Ave E, 620 Denny Way, 1220 Howell St., 2201 E. Madison Ave., 1218 N. 45th St., and the “Northgate Mall II” store. No timetable is mentioned (we’ll check with corporate PR tomorrow).

Starbucks should be closing these licensee stores first. The Safeway could certainly use the space. As I missed Carrie and Infinity closing before it, I’ll miss SBUX. A cafe was a nice welcome to the complex.

Um, wasn’t this one just opened last November? If I was a shareholder I’d be pretty upset. Closing a store that has been open less than a year is no way to do business.

“Closing a store that has been open less than a year is no way to do business.”

Opening stores that need to be closed in a year is no way to do business. The difference is in having done your “due dilligence” and understanding the marketplace and competition, not just racking up as many new stores as possible.

I wonder if Bartell’s could financially handle expanding into that space. (If they even have a desire to).

    .

I like that store well enough, but after being in the new Burien one, in the Transit Center, I’d like to see the JS store be able to expand their inventory.

    .

They already expanded once, at the east end, a few years ago.

So wait….The end result of this is what, that Infinity Coffee company shut down for no reason?

    Grrrr.

that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. It JUST opened. They just spent a ton of money turning it into a SBUX. Arghhhh. Maybe Infinity wants to come back?

I’m going to go thru my e-mail files to see if I can find the Infinity operators’ address (they e-mailed when they were having that closing sale last year). Here’s my bet – while this store is closing, when all the new megabuildings start opening in a year and beyond, one of them will have a Starbucks, maybe in a more pedestrian-friendly location. That’s the only reason I can see SBUX closing this when thousands of new residents will be moving within a mile in the years to come.

Looks like West Seattle will only be losing one Starbucks location.

Right, that’s the one we reported above (Jefferson Square), same one we mentioned last week as well.

Sorry, comment time is over.
