In the WSB Forums: Weather venting

Happening here, with the to-the-point subject line coined by beachdrivegirl, “What month is it?” The forecast does have a tiny bit of hope … ADDED AT MIDDAY: The view from Seacrest at 11 am today. (Low-tide pix to come)

Seems Mayvember gave way to Juneuary.

Any of you non-natives thinking about moving back home now?? ;-)

    Everyday!!!

  • WSB June 4, 2008 (11:25 am)

    No :)

I have to confess that it is my fault. I just had air conditioning installed at my house. I figured I couldn’t stomach another summer with a large southern exposure and a greenhouse effect that made it 85 degrees inside my house even when it was only 75 outside. But with my luck, now that I’ve spent all this money we’re destined to have a record cold summer. I’m sorry. My bad. If it is any consolation I’d be happy to do a penance by going out and buying a gross of umbrellas. The sun is sure to return after that.

I’m with GA, June is supposed to be very, very different than this. I wore my winter jacket for a dog walk yesterday afternoon. It is just not right!

  • Paul June 4, 2008 (2:33 pm)

I LOVE IT! I HATE the heat, so this is the best ever!

  • Bonnie June 4, 2008 (2:34 pm)

I’m a native here and I’m ready to move back home. Just don’t know where that is! LOL!

  • old timer June 4, 2008 (2:36 pm)

I don’t know…it’s almost always crappy in June.
I remember starting many Fourth of Julys with a small fire in the woodstove to ‘take off the chill’.
Wait until July 15 to start complaining.

  • OP June 4, 2008 (3:45 pm)

“old timer” is right, kids: June’s weather is usually iffy. And summer around here doesn’t officially start until July 5. (I think last July 4 was the first one in a long time that wasn’t cool, wet or windy or a combination of all three.) It was nice to be back in New York–82, sunny with about a 10-15MPH breeze. Perfect. Just like our summer will be soon enough. :-) Or so I hope, anyway.

“The first day of Summer begins on the 5th of July”… at least that’s what I’ve been told!

  • iloveapbt June 4, 2008 (4:51 pm)

    So much for global warming

  • barmargia June 4, 2008 (7:14 pm)

Paul, I also hate the heat, although the rainy commute on the motorcycle gets a little old. But I am happy with cooler weather. I am sick of the people who move here and complain about it not being weather they want. The pacific northwest is not known to be a summer hot spot.

  • booger June 4, 2008 (7:46 pm)

I’ve been here 13 years, can I still complain about the weather? Also, the only people ‘native’ to this area, are the Native Americans!!

  • Aidan Hadley June 4, 2008 (8:02 pm)

Paul: I’m with you. I’d be happy for the cold and damp weather to last all summer. I’ve never quite understood the point at which everyone is programmed to think that sunny and warm is good and everything else is bad.

  • WSB June 4, 2008 (8:17 pm)

Sunny and warm all the time isn’t good. Lived in Honolulu, Las Vegas, San Diego, that gets boring after a while. But the nice short summer here is optimal when there’s a fair amount of sunshine … just to balance out the rest of the year. My .01999999.

I have lived here since the 70’s and I live here BECAUSE of the rainy cool climate we get most of the year. Typical Seattle weather is nice weather to me. The rainy gloomy days are to me what sunny and warm days are to others. It is plenty hot and dry here mid July through September. It’s more than enough for me. The fall can’t come fast enough. I’ve actually thought about where can I move so I don’t encounter 80 – 90 + degrees in the summer like we have had here recently. One weekend a few years ago it was 97 one day, then 96, then 95.. it gets plenty nice around here due to global warming or whatever.. Something is changing, there didn’t use to be so many 90 + days. Some people like sun/warm, some people like rain/cool.. What gets me is how can anyone like it when their house is 80 degrees + !! Sure there is A/C and fans but it sucks to break a sweat walking to the kitchen or folding clothes fresh out of the dryer. I’ll never move to a warmer climate.

To barmargia, who said “I am sick of the people who move here and complain about it not being weather they want.” – Not all of us moved here by choice…well I guess we did have a choice when my husband’s company said transfer or loose your job we could have chosen the no job route but since he had worked there for 16 years we chose transfer.

The cold and rainy winters don’t bother me but the summers do. I saw on the news that it’s sunny and 93 in Atlanta today and here I am packing my longjohns and parka for a Girl Scout cookout tomorrow night…

Been here since 94 after 35 years in Florida. I’m about done withe the 8 months of 48degress or colder and damp :(

Maui would be just fine :)

Sorry, comment time is over.
