Someone posted about this dog running down 34th on nextdoor.com — they called and are trying to get ahold of you.

I also asked a person who sent us a Facebook message about a similar dog (maybe the same person) to please call, and I know he left a message earlier. Thanks for the cross-reference, I’m not sure that everyone understands ND is not searchable, not on the open web, and silo’ed by microneighborhood – lost pets often turn up miles away from where they were lost, multiple neighborhoods away. Great if you post on a local list but please post here too so people don’t have to be a member or a specific microneighborhood resident to find the notice. I will ping the person who sent this to make sure she is checking messages and knows people are trying to reach her – TR

    Hi Diane,
Carol at Pet Elements told me about your lost dog Stinky last week.
She gave me an update today. My suggestion if Stinky is being seen in one area
use a human trap to catch him and put up posters in that area SW Kenyon st &
SW Elmgrove st between 30th and 34th that says skittish Do Not Chase

I’m heading in the area now to look for Stinky I’ll call you if I see
    any thing

The last time he was seen in that was on Wednesday. No one has seen him since. We checked the Seattle and Kent pounds – no luck. He just seemed vanish, with mo leads at all. I just got home from that area about 15 minutes ago. (I was in a white saturn). THANK YOU FOR HELPING! – I appreciate it more than you can imagine! I am so heartbroken and I’m sure my little dog is too. Diane

    Hi again,
since the leads are not coming in my recommendations are to:
    1. make bigger neon poster signs & cover a larger area (2 miles out from last seen)
currently you have signs on 35th and a few in the current neighborhood
    2. do several intersection alerts
    What is an “Intersection Alert”?

An Intersection Alert is basically an advertising campaign, except instead of trying to get people to vote for your candidate, come to your fundraising car wash, or shop at your mattress store you are advertising a lost dog. Not only are you making people aware that a dog is missing, but you are also conveying how much your dog means to the owner, and how motivated they are to get their dog home. Generally speaking, people want to be helpful, but they are more likely to offer help when they see all of the effort that is being put into the recovery effort.
Although you could do this with just one person if that’s all you could muster on short notice, it is best to have at least four people. Eight people per intersection would be ideal. If you have lots of people who want to help, then you can spread them out in groups of four to eight at strategic intersections. With more people, it may be handy to stay in touch with two way radios, but at least make sure everyone has each other’s cell phone numbers.

Sue (Diane), we should do this! I am more than willing to help and I am sure we could get more of us together to do it. It’s worth a try and a great idea! Thanks Pet Detective, excellent suggestions. I really want to help my cousins find their sweet little dog.

I’ve been pretty wrapped up in this as a dog lover and Stinky was last seen in the area around my house. I’ve searched for him pretty extensively with no luck.

One thing I’d like to add, is that my wife is involved in dog rescue and shared some insight with me. Many people find dogs and (wrongly) fear that if they take them to the shelter they will immediately be euthanized so they take them in. We had a friend recently lose a dog and it was returned to her one month later. Turns out someone had found the dog a few days after it was lost, but feared bringing it to the shelter. Three weeks later they saw a missing poster and returned the dog.

So I guess what I’m getting at, is even if it seems Stinky has suddenly vanished keep getting those posters up and getting the word out! Maybe WSB can repost an update to this story to help get the word out in case someone has Stinky and doesn’t know he’s being searched for.

    I’ll keep searching!

    Mike

Thanks Mike – I have been trying to put up more posters, but the rain keeps ruining them. I plan on getting more out there and replacing the ones that have been ruined. I have signs from Myrtle to Roxbury and am planning on doing the intersection alert this Saturday. Thank you so much for continuing to watch for him. I am out there both before and after work ( only driving a red jeep now)

I have not seen the dog and I’m on Elmgrove and 34th. I have looked repeatedly around the neighborhood but to no avail. If there is a search party being organized- I’m in.

    Hi Diane,
it sounds like you have a few people from these posting that might help you in the intersection alert this sat don’t be afraid to ask them for help. The more people you have you can cover 2
intersections. Have flyers to hand out as well and someone who will keep track of the sightings
or info you get from people driving by

also about your posters being ruined with the rain
you could follow the instructions on how to make the posters with big neon paper those posters will last for months even in the rain. just use a sheet protect put your flyer (on flyer just a big picture of stinky and phone number in Large Font)upside down in the sheet protect then tape (clear masking tape) that to the big sheet of neon poster ( cut 1 big sheet into 2 halves) in the middle of poster. On top with black marker Reward on bottom Lost Dog.

good luck and I agree with Mike

I did the intersection alert today, and he may have been seen by 17th SW & SW Henderson.

  • m November 9, 2014 (8:15 am)

@ Diane – I live near 17th & Henderson. I’ll be on the lookout for Stinky.

  • diane christensen November 9, 2014 (10:22 pm)

Thanks M! I’m not sure if it’s Stinky (by 17th and Henderson) they said the little dog they see has a red and nlack collar, and Stinky did not hqbe a collar on.

  • Pet Detective November 10, 2014 (12:32 pm)

    Hi Daine,
the information you received with the sighting by 17th & SW Henderson did you get much detail like what day, what time, what direction was the dog heading, or was the dog hiding in the area

with information like this you can decide if an human trap is appropriate at this time and maybe have “M” who commented above that they lice near the location to help check on the trap.

to rule out what dog has been seen in the area keep in mind if someone did pick up Stinky and lets say they were going to keep him and in doing so they put a collar on him then he escaped from them.

    I would do this:
check out the area 17th & SW Henderson see how many houses are in the area and possible places a dog could hide ie abandon houses, alleys, etc.. knowing what directions the dog was seen will help in this process

    1. Print out 50 flyers and go door to door in that neighborhood, leave flyers at all doors regardless if you talk to someone or not. The doors you would knock on will depend on what direction the dog was heading in so either up and down Henderson or one of the other streets like up and down 17th
    2. make 60 BIG neon posters and place around this area starting at Delridgre Way SW to Sw Thistle st up to 9th ave sw turns into Henderson PL SW turns into 8th Ave SW to W Roxbury st then back to Delrige Way SW
    3. place 2 8×11 flyers up at Westcrest 2 flyers up at Highland Park Playground
    4. place 4 BIG neon posters up around WestWood Village shopping center
    5. update craigslist posting
    6. Do more intersection alerts on Delridge way sw & sw Roxbury st another on 16th & SW Thistle
