Another WSB milestone: Dropping the veil

helpsign.jpg

That’s the sign that started it all.

One year ago this week, we were going about the business of WSB being a standard-issue little hobby blog, a little info here, a little opinion there. Only a few hundred people knew we were here.

Then: Windstorm ’06.

We lost power for four days. Many people in West Seattle went without it for even longer. Almost as bad as the power outage – the information outage. West Seattle-specific updates were virtually impossible to come by.

We happened to be off work that week. So we decided to start roaming WS and trying to gather and share some of that info. We received, and answered, e-mails from people stuck at work or out of town and wondering if their lights were back on yet.

From there, even after the power came back on, with the phenomenal help of reader e-mail, tips, photos, and other contributions, WSB started morphing into a community-news site. “Hyperlocal,” as the buzzword goes. The more news and information we put up, the more came in, and more people kept finding the site, by Googling for something specific that we happened to have reported, or by word-of-mouth.

For months, we’ve been doing this in our spare time, early morning, late night, lunch break. But now it’s time to make a real commitment. So your editor here just quit her day job.

With the commitment of time, came the realization we have to make another commitment: For the first time, we need to trust the Internet as a safe place for us to publicly identify ourselves. Something we’ve almost NEVER done during our entire 13 years of Web surfing and blogging on other sites, something we were just kind of weird about. But now there’s no way to avoid the reality that we must commit that trust – to earn more of yours.

We didn’t set out to run West Seattle Blog anonymously for any particular reason, other than the fact the two of us have always been rather particular about keeping our names off the Internet, even though we’ve been online since the World Wide Web contained just a handful of pages (we went online in 1994, using a PowerMac 6100/60 to dial up via Delphi at 14.4 kps, and using the text-only browser known as Lynx). We’re kind of shy, kind of reclusive, and didn’t want Google trails.

We could probably keep running it anonymously if not for the fact that we need more … facts. Many amazing people, including some of your public servants (special shoutout to County Councilmember Dow Constantine and his excellent crew) have been kind enough to give us the benefit of the doubt, and provide us with information for you, without knowing what kind of crackpots were on the other end of the e-mail. But some people just won’t return a call or e-mail without a name attached to it. And we can’t blame them. However, we need their help to answer the questions you are asking, and that we are asking. So the anonymity’s become a cocoon we have to get out of, so we can get on with the business of better serving you.

We are now fully identified and explained on our “About Us” page. (But if you don’t want to know, you don’t have to click!) Thanks as always for your support and for the info, photos, comments, word-of-mouth that all combine and continue to make this an online means of community connection – something we’ve experienced a lot more of as a result of our WSB work, too. We are committing ourselves fulltime to getting you even more of the information you need. We can’t tell you how much it means to us for that information and energy to continue coming from you. That’s why this website has come to become such a passion for us, that we want to spend all our time on it. Here’s to a bright future for WSB and for all of us in West Seattle.

i was at a party in Fremont on Saturday night and met a fellow West Seattlite there and we were trying to guess who y’all were! now the mystery is solved. :) and again, thanks for being a lifesaver (and listening ear) during the Windstorm ’06… i realized then that WSB is who i need to turn to for information.

  • Erik December 11, 2007 (1:36 pm)

Congrats on pulling the curtain aside to reveal yourselves, and ditching the day job! I’ve often wondered who the guy is on your home page walking along Alki…he could be my twin!

  • Fiona December 11, 2007 (1:37 pm)

Congrats on your coming out! It’s nice to officially meet the people who provide me with the most interesting conversation starters. I’m always telling folks “I read the wsb everyday!!” Thanks so much for your work!

  • chas redmond December 11, 2007 (1:37 pm)

The Stranger’s having an open house at a CapHill bar for their SLOG team and contributors – would WSB consider an open house. To make it all ages, might I suggest Coffee to a Tea?

  • Rhonda Porter December 11, 2007 (1:42 pm)

Ta DA!!!! I wondered when I met Patrick at the KOMO Blog Meet up if he was really a WSB-er. I was so close to publishing his photo with me and maybe using a blue dot on his face…but did not out of respect for your privacy…just in case!

    Congrats on coming out!

  • WSB December 11, 2007 (1:45 pm)

Chas – we actually are going to plan an open house for January, after the holidays. We would like to regularly have public events not just to meet and greet but also to perhaps center on some kind of topic, issue or discussion. We used to belong to Utne Reader “salons” a hundred million years ago … sometimes WSB feels like one big virtual “salon.”

Rhonda — Patrick did go to that officially representing his own personal blog but I asked him to be on the lookout for a couple specific people, you among them, to say hi on WSB’s behalf :)

  • cleat December 11, 2007 (1:46 pm)

More than congratulations on your coming out… congratulations on WSB where we go to find out what’s REALLY going on!!! Keep up the good work …and be well! cleat

  • Rhonda Porter December 11, 2007 (2:04 pm)

I was very flattered to have Patrick pass a secret message from WSB. Congrats again.

  • Chris Monsos December 11, 2007 (2:16 pm)

How great to see the crew working behind the curtain. Thanks for all of your hard work, I’m a proud reader and West Seattle’r!

  • JT December 11, 2007 (2:19 pm)

Thank-you for extending your trust. You have no idea how valuable you are to all of us. I can’t get around very well and you make me me feel like I’m still a part of my neighborhood. You post something at least once a day that I either didn’t know about or wanted more info about. To the annoyance of others I’m sure, I am also repeating stories from here all the time. You are my first and last stop every day and I really appreciate all your hard work.

  • RobertSeattle December 11, 2007 (2:24 pm)

Best Local Blog in the Universe! :-)

    Congrats!

  • Kevin December 11, 2007 (2:30 pm)

    Hey WSB —
I work in Belltown but live just north of westwood. Without you guys, I would have no clue on half the things that are happening in my “backyard” as it were, because I’m too often stuck on the boring mainland doing work.
Glad you have “come out” as it were. Consider partnering and printing out some hoodies so we can wear our WSB pride!

  • BB December 11, 2007 (2:30 pm)

I can’t imagine how prolific you will be now! Congratulations… Nice to see people be able to turn a “hobby” into something more.

  • Venkat December 11, 2007 (2:36 pm)

Congrats and thanks – it’s great to see something that is useful, fruitful for you, and something you all are obviously passionate about!

  • Thomas December 11, 2007 (2:43 pm)

OMG! I can’t believe you turned out to be Greg Nickels! That’s unreal.

  • Todd December 11, 2007 (2:47 pm)

You folks really get it done. Thanks for existing. WSB is my #1 recommended daily blog out there. Also, its funny that we graced the halls at Lafayette at the same time. Small world.

By the way Kevin has an excellent suggestion. Hoodies would be great. I know just the designer to get them done.

  • Shawn December 11, 2007 (2:50 pm)

    Nice to finally meet you!

  • cranky cyclist December 11, 2007 (2:50 pm)

I am somewhat disappointed that you have dropped the veil. I overheard a very amusing conversation last summer at Endolyne Joes speculating on what you looked like. They were guessing based on the type of camera and camera angles used for photos taken at an Alki event.

I will say that your blog is invaluable to me. And when people ask me how I know so much about events in and around West Seattle, I always point to you.

  • The Velvet Bulldog December 11, 2007 (2:52 pm)

I was surreptitiously scanning down the WSB headlines here at work when it hit me what “Dropping the Veil” probably referred to–my stomach did a flip and I quickly looked at the post! It’s wonderful to meet all of you and we’ll look forward to seeing you out and about in the wonderful world of West Seattle!

  • k December 11, 2007 (3:04 pm)

that was a tough decision…click or no click. i did it. i had to find out who the amazingly wonderful people were who keep me up to date with all that is west seattle! great to meet you! many thanks for you have done and many thanks in advance for the many ways in which you will help in the future. congrats on taking this huge step!

  • k December 11, 2007 (3:06 pm)

that is “many thanks for what you have done”…seemed to miss a word. i think it’s because of all the excitement! big love from two very big fans and a dog!

  • atemybuick December 11, 2007 (3:12 pm)

    Hey dq, now we know!

  • MEB December 11, 2007 (3:13 pm)

Congrats! Thank you for all the hard work that you all do. WSB has been so helpful and fun to read. Nice to meet you all.

  • k December 11, 2007 (3:19 pm)

hey patrick- i TOO was an elevator music DJ. did that up until this time last year. small world indeed.

  • deb December 11, 2007 (3:20 pm)

I was also hesitant to click the link, but I’m glad I did. It’s so nice to (virtually) meet you! Thank you a million times over for creating and maintaining such a great resource for the WS community. WSB is the first stop I make in my RSS reader every morning, and then I continue to regularly check it throughout the day. You guys rock!

  • Suits are not boring December 11, 2007 (3:29 pm)

Congrats! I actually have had conversations with complete strangers on the Water Taxi about who you might be :)

  • Katherine December 11, 2007 (3:39 pm)

Congratulations on your courage in dropping the protection of anonymity. I’m pleased that I guessed you’d had previous reporting experience, but I never guessed how much. Lucky us in West Seattle that you settled here.

  • que December 11, 2007 (3:40 pm)

Congrats on “dropping the veil” and congrats on quitting the day job! You all do such an incredible job. You keep us all informed and help to join us together as a community. Thank you so much for all your work.

  • Kayleigh December 11, 2007 (3:42 pm)

Nice to cybermeet you! You are my go-to source for local info, hands down.

  • Angela December 11, 2007 (3:48 pm)

I can’t seem to click yet – I like the mystery of the unknown. I’ve also had conversations at parties, my son’s basketball practice, etc. about who we think is WSB.

Thanks for everything you do and congratulations on quitting your day job, that was a big commitment. OK, so maybe I’ll click the link and find out you’re my next door neighbor – wouldn’t that be a shocker??? Maybe tomorrow…

  • Bonnie December 11, 2007 (3:58 pm)

Congrats on dropping the veil and thanks for your hard work making West Seattle a great place to live.

  • scian December 11, 2007 (4:12 pm)

The silence from Jan is deafening… ;)

Seriously though, welcome to the sunshine and thanks for all that you do and the way in which you do it.

  • add December 11, 2007 (4:15 pm)

I echo everyone’s sentiments – thank you for all you do, WSB! And for being so responsive and personable with email correspondence. I started reading WSB well before last year’s storm – a friend was traveling in Thailand during the crazy school closure stuff in spring ’06 and googled to find out what was going on. First on the list? WSB!

Like others, I read “The Blog” – which is how I refer to WSB and everyone knows which blog I mean – every day, sometimes several times a day and thoroughly enjoy the posts and especially the comments. :)

    WSB Rocks!

  • E December 11, 2007 (4:24 pm)

Thank you for existing West Seattle blog! We all love you.

  • Todd in westwood December 11, 2007 (4:34 pm)

Thanks WSB! I know I can always find the “news” about West Seattle here first. Keep up the good work.

    Todd

  • cami December 11, 2007 (4:36 pm)

Finally! I can stop looking around at every meeting and wondering “Who is WSB?”! I will look forward to meeting you in person in the near future. Thanks for ALL YOUR AMAZING WORK!

  • Bob Loblaw December 11, 2007 (4:38 pm)

Missed it by that much, even when trying to pry the info from Mr. Carder.

Congrats on showing us what’s behind the curtain. Be prepared to wear a disguise at the grocery store.

    — Mr. Loblaw, who is also a graduate of WDIG and loves to fan the flames here just for kicks

  • Christopher Boffoli December 11, 2007 (4:52 pm)

I had my first in-person sighting of the people behind the WSB curtain back in October. And it was a privilege to finally get to formally meet them and to photograph them this weekend. I became a frequent reader of the blog last year when it heard so many of my neighbors mention it as the best source of information for what is happening in West Seattle. Since that time I’ve been consistently impressed with the quality and quantity of their news reporting. It has been an honor to contribute to something they have worked so hard to build and maintain.

  • Elisabeth December 11, 2007 (5:18 pm)

Wow! I figured there were two of you but from its thoroughness and wide scope I assumed you were both on the WSB gig full time. I read it every day. I’ve learned a lot about my neighborhood where I’ve lived for 20 years! I appreciate the crime updates, the boosterism for new businesses, the mix of positive and negative news, and the speculation (I won’t say gossip). Thank you so very much!

  • Mickymse December 11, 2007 (5:28 pm)

Good luck! I hope you don’t come to regret dropping the veil… because your work on this blog has been nothing short of A-mazing! I hope we see more of this in the future. Using technology to actually bring local (rather than global) communities closer together.

  • Dis December 11, 2007 (5:35 pm)

YAY! Thank you for your good work. Now you can get the recognition you deserve!!

  • Dis December 11, 2007 (5:37 pm)

But I know Mr. Boffoli is a superb photographer, maybe he get take a nice clear shot of y’all. That tiny, grainy, out-of-focus photo is not a mistake.

  • Jan December 11, 2007 (5:45 pm)

Scian…sorry about being so quiet – lol. It’s been a busy day, and not over yet :) WSB (all of them) knows that I heart them. I’m glad to finally meet you, if only on here for now. You’re the first place I go in the morning, last at night…heaven forbid I should miss something ;-)

I think you all are amazing, and that the female half of WSB is truly brave for giving up that day thing. Here’s to many more posts on here…drinks all around :)

    <3

  • Jim December 11, 2007 (5:48 pm)

My daughter told me the veil had been dropped, but refused to share any info, making me wait till I got home. Great Job. A wonderful source of information.

  • BB errr bookie 4 now December 11, 2007 (5:51 pm)

I’ll set the over/under for comments on this post at 75. Lets hope for the over (and continued positivity!).

  • WSB December 11, 2007 (5:55 pm)

Dis, since we’re not particularly photogenic, we debated including a photo at all … When we ran into Christopher at Alki last weekend, we were about to shoot our annual holiday family portrait with a timer and tripod and our cheap little Nikon point-n-shoot, but he had a big fancy camera with him, and he offered to take a few pix. He did send us two better ones (one of which we will be using for the intended purpose), but they didn’t include so much of the scenery, which we thought more subject-appropriate here.

  • daPuffin December 11, 2007 (5:58 pm)

Thanks for all you do! What an amazing team! Looking forward to seeing this blog get better and better. And nice to be able to put faces to the team.

  • Jo December 11, 2007 (6:13 pm)

    Congratulations!
And thanks for your professionalism and integrity on keeping mum re: some of the ‘off-the-record’ tidbits I’ve shared with you. I never doubted.
Frankly, if it wasn’t for the forum that this blog provided, our Statue of Liberty might still be languishing down in that Tacoma factory. Posting here gave me the courage to step up to the challenge and take my and most of my neighbors views as far as City Hall. It worked, WSB!
Again, thanks. You are more appreciated than you could ever know.

    Jo
P.S. Also, love your collective sense of humor.

  • GenHillOne December 11, 2007 (7:22 pm)

WOW – came home from work and what a great surprise! And 48 (probably 50+ by the time I finish this) comments! Congratulations…sniffle, sniffle…I feel like my kid just graduated, or my best friend just got married, or, well you get it. Thanks for sharing yourselves, and you’re just so damned professionally qualified to boot! Explains a LOT. All the best to you and your continued success.

  • Tom December 11, 2007 (7:40 pm)

Hey you guys! Congrats! I spotted Patrick video-ing at the OLG tree lighting and thought “I bet that’s the guy from WSB.” I was right! I am also a former “on air personality” at an “Easy Listening” outfit in the South Sound. Thanks to the three of you for becoming my “go-to” place for WS news.

  • J December 11, 2007 (7:42 pm)

Noooo… TR can’t quit her job downtown! Who’s gonna provide the up to date traffic reports when something happens on the bridge during the morning commute.

  • bbilly December 11, 2007 (7:46 pm)

yeah! you folks are the best. now I know WSB is not simply a figment of my imagination ;-)

  • TeaLady December 11, 2007 (7:47 pm)

Congratulations!!! Welcome to the wonderful world of the self-employed (yikes!) Thank you for all of your amazing work. Being still fairly new to WS, this blog has been the only way I know what the heck is going on. THANK YOU.

  • The House December 11, 2007 (7:48 pm)

This is awesome, I thought that I’d see you in person once but I was wrong.

Congratulations on coming out of the closet!

I’m all for a WSB get together at Coffee To A Tea. I can’t wait to meet some of the other folks on here.

How big of rocks do you think they’ll throw at me when they meet me in person?

  • mtnpeak December 11, 2007 (7:49 pm)

Just want to add my own “thank you” to the growing list. I’ve been a reader since the famous windstorm and have been extremely impressed with the professionalism and quality of this blog. You really do provide a priceless service to all us West Seattleites.

  • GenHillOne December 11, 2007 (7:52 pm)

Aw House, no rocks, maybe just a coffee bean or two ;)

  • jb December 11, 2007 (7:52 pm)

You guys are good people! The blog rocks, and so do you! I think you’re my neighbor too…at least now I know who I’m looking for!

  • Shannon December 11, 2007 (7:54 pm)

We moved to WS from Ballard a few months ago. When I was asking around at work about good restaurants in WS, multiple people told me about the WS Blog. I had never been on a blog and didn’t know what to expect (am I hip enough to be on a “blog”??). Now…I tap into the site in the morning and at night, and have found it amazingly helpful (I am a very curious person). I hope you realize what a service you are providing to the community — making us much more of a community than we would have been. Thank you, thank you.
    – Shannon, A Fauntleroy neighbor

  • Keith December 11, 2007 (8:18 pm)

No matter who you *really* are, you’ll always be WSB to me! :) Congrats on ditching the day job and thank you for your tireless and invaluable contributions to our community.

  • Ron Burgundy December 11, 2007 (8:38 pm)

Well, now that Jan has chimed in, has anyone seen Jiggers?

Congrats WSB and thanks for providing a place for the people of WS to chime in and show their real colors. I enjoy reading the public opinions but some of you out there scare the bejesus out of me. :)

  • Barbara December 11, 2007 (8:44 pm)

Nice to meet you, I stumbled across the blog awhile back, and now I’m checking it out every day a few times a day, you are doing a great thing for a great community, thank you.

  • Lou December 11, 2007 (8:58 pm)

WOW! Nice to meet you and thanks for the excellent coverage of WS events. I agree with the above posts – you’ll be WSB to me. Just the other night while watching the Christmas Ship, I was reviewing everyone with a camera and movie camera wondering if it was you. :-) I have also spent numerous conversations with friends trying to figure out who you are. Keep up the good work!!!

  • Eric December 11, 2007 (9:04 pm)

Your introduction spurred me to finally send WSB some feedback — we love the WSB. My wife and I recently moved to WS, and we’ve found WSB to be by far the best way to get to know our new community. Local news as it should be. A giant thank you — and I can’t wait to tell my wife that you ‘dropped the veil’…

  • MW December 11, 2007 (9:26 pm)

    Great stuff – congrats.
And thanks for joining us at the Admiral Neighborhood Association meeting tonight. I’ll await your in-depth coverage!
And thanks once again for the great work!
    Mark

  • miws December 11, 2007 (9:28 pm)

As others have posted, great to finally “meet” the WSB team, and thanks for all you do.

A friend of mine turned me on to this blog earlier in the year, and I’ve checked in several times a day since.

About a month or so ago, I read the Archives from the begining, until late Spring, early Summer of this year. It was interesting to see how it has evolved, just as how you described above.

    Mike

  • A.A. December 11, 2007 (9:49 pm)

How funny. We were at Elliot Bay Brewery one evening when something-or-other went down in WS that made the news. We were both trying to pull out the Treos to log on and find out what was up (no volume on the tv – we just saw the neighborhood) and while we were griping about not getting any reception to check WSB, there was a couple sitting next to us smiling and listening. I still suspect it was you guys, as they looked quite a bit like you.

    Congrats on coming out.

  • Vickie December 11, 2007 (10:00 pm)

Nice to meet you, WSB! I, along with so many other commenters and readers here, log on to WSB almost every day – and I keep your site up all day long at work just to make sure I don’t miss anything. You rock and I’m so glad you’re in the neighborhood! What would we do without you? A Meet ‘N’ Greet in January is a most excellent idea…happy holidays to you!

  • Lou's Wife December 11, 2007 (10:03 pm)

I love that you are out of the closet but I will miss all the speculative conversations I have had from W. Seattle down to Federal Way about who you are. I actually got an e-mail from my friend alerting me to this exciting occasion. Thanks again for all you do. I love the open house idea but given how many people read this, I’m not sure Alki Beach would be big enough for the crowd.

  • LyndaB December 11, 2007 (10:09 pm)

ah! you told me there was going to be a big reveal and here it is. i read through every comment before putting mine in. WSB is my connection to my ‘hood! i have to you check you everyday and at any opportunity tell people about this blog. congrats on unveiling yourselves.
now, i’m going to see this ‘about us’ section…

  • Jan December 11, 2007 (10:36 pm)

and, hey, for what it’s worth..if there’s “meet and Greet”, I promise I’ll be on my best behavior…no drinks in Houses’s face ;-)

  • Bill December 12, 2007 (12:40 am)

Just read your About page. That explains a lot. I’d often wondered how WSB managed to be so much more professional than any other equivalent blog. You’ve done, and continue to do, an excellent job of covering the West Seattle scene. Honestly, you’re a true asset to the community.

And Patrick, my very first real job was in the traffic department of a beautiful music station back around 1979. So, I can relate!

  • Tish December 12, 2007 (2:58 am)

Ahhhh! You came out! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen an individual with a camera or camcorder at a WS event and thought “Is that WSB”? It’s so nice to finally meet you!

  • Sue December 12, 2007 (6:53 am)

I know that took a lot of courage to do that, so I commend you for that. Like the others said, it’s nice to “meet” you and look forward to really meeting you at a future event. I really appreciate what you all do here. I’ve been in the Seattle area for 3 years, only half of that in West Seattle. You’ve really made it feel like home for me, from chatting with people here about things, to knowing what’s really going on around me and helping me to find ways to get around. I can’t imagine living anywhere else! WSB is my home page, and I read it constantly. I am grateful for all you do.

  • carraignasplinkeen December 12, 2007 (7:02 am)

Recently we were at Costco and upon our return at that lovely network of roads at 4th Ave SW/Spokane St./1st Ave SW there was something going on that prevented our passing through. We sat for some time and saw lights flashing, etc., and after a while my 6 yr. old was very curous and wanted to know what was going on. We told him we had no idea and he said: “Can you check the West Seattle Blog when we get home?” and I said sure, thinking that there was no way this bit of information would be on there. But it was (a train had derailed). So there you have it, it is part of our family lexicon! Thanks very much for your well-written, timely, and useful blog.

  • wundrgrrrl December 12, 2007 (8:47 am)

Yeesh – I skimmed over this post originally thinking it was a flashback to last years storm, but “…74 comments? I better check it out”. What a surprise to finally see the real wizards behind the curtain. Thanks for all you do and I look forward to the official meet-n-greet too!

  • DALYDBL December 12, 2007 (9:54 am)

You guys rock! What a natural, amazing talent! I enjoy your work and the community response so much that I read it every day. It really makes this area feel like a small town and I like that. I hope to see this continue for many years to come.

  • erin December 12, 2007 (10:26 am)

congratulations and thank you for the privilege.

  • Sage K December 12, 2007 (12:06 pm)

    CONGRATS!

To click or not to click that link was such a hard decision, but now I can wave hello to you :)

Thanks for making WSB my one and only place for West Seattle info. You are my last stop of the day, and i check throughout the day as well. I even checked in from New Zealand to see what was happening in my area. You are the first “local” thing I tell new West Seattleites about.

Thanks for making this such a great community focused blog, I love all the posts big and small and the comments ;)

  • westseattledood December 12, 2007 (12:33 pm)

Even in this season of lights, your light shines among the brightest. It is awesome to have someone to say thank you too!!!

You have pulled this site and this community together magnificently! Thanks for leading the way.

I didn’t mind the anonymity since it was obvious to me you had integrity. But I think you will enjoy being known for what you do – it is very rewarding. Thanks for being so responsive and including event information that I send your way from High Point!

I came across this last night about 11:00 and saw 70 + comments and figured something had to be up with so many commets in such a short time. My eye saw the no power sign first and my first thought is no power again for my neighbors… OMG! But of course I quickly realized what all the comments were for. Just wanted to add my congrats and thanks for being such an important resource for us all!

    You suck!!!

Sorry — I thought it was an internet law that some discussion always has to have a message that says “You suck!”

Congrats on the good comments above — and good luck with making the leap, Tracy. You guys are always in my thoughts, & you should be proud of what you’ve created here. May it thrive and prosper!

I have to finally comment! I almost died when I saw this the other day – I called my husband at work immediately. Yea! This is so exciting. This is the first place we come to for any local news and you always have it. I am constantly surprised by how fast you reply to emails and how much information you can find out about anything. I look forward to a meet and greet – Coffee To A Tea sounds perfect! And I think you should have a stand at the street fair next summer selling WSB stuff! I’ll buy it. You rock – thanks for this fabulous site.

WOW. What an amazing resource you have become – I have checked WSB in Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, India, Washington DC, and even … Tacoma!

You offer an invaluable service, you do it well, you are balanced and fair and informative and quirky, and I even forgive you your strange obsession with the Blue Angels. Congratulations on this big step.

Quirky – our favorite adjective. Thanks to everyone for the kind words and for the continuing support. Tonight the 3 of us were out checking on late-night shopping in Admiral & The Junction and the WS Art Walk and what was really cool was to be able to say hi to people in person (we met a few we’d “known” for months via e-mail) and talk with them about themselves, about WSB, and about West Seattle in general. Looking forward to doing lots more of that!!!!

Talk about a group hug! Love WSB and all you do and stand for!

I moved to West Seattle from Southern California in April of this year, and immediately loved the sense of community that this neighborhood has. The West Seattle Blog has been my primary source of information about this area, and even though I haven’t posted anything until now, the blog has made me feel like I’m a part of a great group of friends!
I’m so thankful for your commitment to the community!

Thank you so much for “dropping the veil”. These days that’s a very brave thing to do and I hope we all can keep your trust. Thanks also for all that you do. Among many other things, I feel safer in my community because I guess I understand it better. You guys (and all the readers and public officials who contribute, etc.) are great! So what colors are the hoodies?

I hope we can offer WSB-branded stuff someday – for now we’re still working on the basics (like business cards that don’t resemble something we created by sticking a page of card stock in a photocopy machine) …

Congrats and a big shout out to both of you…now I know where to send the bill for all my lost hours of productivity surfing the blog at work! Really, you rock. The blog rocks. I’m addicted….HELP!
