Art on the beach

First word of an amazing art project in progress on Alki comes from Cathy Woo’s Beach Walks. Cathy says the artist is Thom Ross and the creations are eventually destined for showing in San Francisco. She has pix up; we hope to be able to get some a bit later.

We went down and talked to the folks that were putting on the display (they are all taken down now). They were testing out the footings to make sure they were stable in the sand.

He said the paintings on plywood are part of an exhibit recreating a picture of Buffalo Bill Cody and his Wild West show on the shores of Ocean City California before a show there. Buffalo Bill then made their way up to Seattle for a show. The artist, who lives here, will be putting up all 120 paintings up on the Ocean City beach later this summer.

Are they coming back to Seattle to be shown? If so when? Wish I would of seen them this weekend. They look great.

This is the artwork of my brother Thom Ross, a Western historical artist who lives in Seattle.

A partial installation of the 120-piece artwork will be displayed on the sands of Ocean Beach in San Fransciso.
Preliminary set-up will happen this August.
Full installation of the “show” will be on display during August/summer of 2008 for 7-10 days or so.
