Escape your espresso rut
March 25, 2007 at 7:02 am | In WS beverages |So it’s Sunday morning, you’re not in such a rush, thinking about wandering out for coffee. Do you always go to the same place, or do you get adventurous every now and then? We’ve been trying to branch out, try the places we haven’t been to in a while (if ever), and we have to say, we’re really impressed with Cafe Rozella, on the southwestern edge (the “cutting edge,” their site says) of WS. Excellent coffee & ambience. See you there.

Indeed! Always very friendly and the Mexican chocolate mocha is fantastic.

I personally drink tea weekdays then have coffee on the weekends only. Tea is much better for you. It maybe not as fun as coffee, but I kind of enjoy the flavored tea’s like Ruby Mist or Peppermint something with a twist. I just came back from Velvet Foam this morning.

Agreed that I enjoy Rozella quite a bit (I’ve been there a half dozen times), but when I enjoy the grabbing coffee in at the Junction much more becuase of it’s surroundings. Mo’ Better Platnium Salon, Kiki Corona and several XXX movie shops get old after 1 visit! Rozella is definitely a “Diamond In the Rough”.

Might I mention the drive-up espresso just across the street from Rozella’s, called the “Java Joint”?
Friendly barista’s, and you don’t even need to get out of your vehicle.

I’ve been living in this area for almost 10 years now and I’m still nervous about getting out of my car and -walking- around the White Center business district. I know it’s silly but I tend to go to the place I need to do business at - do that - then leave the area. Sadly they don’t have much that encourages ‘window shopping’ or just walking around the area. Heng Heng Supermarket is the one interesting place, besides McLendon’s, to spend some time poking around.

Margi, White Center is nothing. Its actually pretty tamed and cleaned up now. I remember ten years ago there used to be a ton of drug dealers waitng by the bus stop across from Bartells but the cops got rid of them a few years ago. Sure you’re going to get an occassional shooting of some sort, but no neighborhood is immune to that. Belltown is far worse than W.C and they have high priced condo’s and nice restaurants their. W.C has some of the best ethnic food around.

Funny you mention Belltown. I worked down there for several years and never had a bad feeling walking around there… well except maybe near the Millionaires Club and Casa Del Job-a.

I disagree, Jiggers. WC is a dump. It might have been cleaned up a bit, but a turd with a bowtie on it is still a turd. Pick a Thurs-Sun night and you can still find Meth and Crack addicts in DT WC, not to mention the thugs that cruise around.

Don’t know about the WC cleaned-up or not-cleaned-up question, but thanks for the Rozella rec. Checked it out last night: strong wi-fi, pretty good latte (I’ll have to try the Mexican mocha next time), extremely friendly owner, and a cool well-decorated space.
Nice.
