West Seattle restaurants: Alki Crab and Fish has closed

Found that sign on the door of Alki Crab and Fish at Seacrest this afternoon. We had actually gone there to check on a closing date, since the new concessionaires chosen by Seattle Parks, the owners of Marination Mobile, had told us the changeover was scheduled to happen by March 15th. As reported here last week, Marination plans to extensively remodel both the restaurant space and the watercraft-rental area run by Alki Kayak Tours will be next door; they hope to open Marination Marina (“working title”) by July.

What?!? According to the Alki Crab & Fish apologists/handwringers, all of those workers were going to lose their jobs! Which was going to have a horrible effect on the unemployment rate, etc. etc.

well, on a positive note, i hope the service at the new joint is better than ‘indifferent.’

funny that they thank people for the support…. according to the finances they were severely lacking in the financial aspect of the ‘support.’

They did have good fish n’ chips.

Well, perhaps it was a valid concern before it was known that the staff would be relocating to the Admiral Pub.

    .

And, although this may be a sincere attempt by ownership to keep those employees, if there is not a significant increase in business at the Pub, some of the employees may be laid-off anyway.

It sucks, but businesses go out of business. It happens. ESPECIALLY in the restaurant business, which is barely better than putting your money on red 13 in Vegas.

To have lunch or dinner there while enjoying the view of the Seattle waterfront was wonderful and you didn’t have to pay Salty’s price! The service was always friendly and the food was excellent. We will truly miss Alki Crab and Fish.

    Dan, etc…

Please folks, be a bit kind. There were more than a few tearful goodbye’s at ACF over the weekend. It is not a given by a long shot that the staff will all move to the other establishment, it is a completely different venue as you know, and would be a big change for some of the folks, and as Mike states, who knows what will come.

    Steve,

They paid off their debts incurred whilst remodeling things over past several years, as I understand it, this is why the numbers showed as they did.

I am one of the handwringers/apologists, and I will miss Yvonne and the crew at ACF. I will visit her wherever she lands, but it will not be the same. I truly wish her the best for the future…
