Has anyone else noticed lately that the Hummingbirds are not coming to your feeders? We’ve always had hummers at our 2 feeders even during the cold snap that we had a few months ago but lately we have seen none. They’d even come bathe in our fountain…but none.
    Anyone else have missing hummingbirds?

I noticed the same thing. It seems it happens every year or so, but it sure makes you wonder. Maybe with Spring coming on, there is more fresh food available. I’ll ask my friend who is very involved with the Audubon Society and see if she has some info for us bird lovers.

I don’t have a feeder, but I do see hummingbirds fairly often at the small evergreen trees outside my condo here in Gatewood. Saw one just the other day.

If I remember correctly I believe this is the first time they’ve disappeared from our neighborhood, could be like you mentioned, fresh food and nesting??? I hope this is the reasons and that they’ll be back.
Vanessa if you hear back from your friend let (us) know.

Every year at this time of year our hummingbird feeders are rarely visited because there are so many real flowers out there that taste better. Eventually in midsummer they start coming back as the flowers are not quite as plentiful. Always sad and happy at the same time

A lot of my observant friends are reporting this. One possible explanation is that the females are feeding their chicks, so require lots of protein. They get this *not* from feeders, but from bugs that they collect on plants or spiderwebs. And they’re incredibly busy doing this hunting as well as protecting their young, so not spending as much time at feeders.

(I can’t help thinking that the record cold might have taken its toll as well.)
