Stop sucking up …. they do. My stats were correct. Women attend college in greater numbers, Women have contracting and government set asides that allow them to charge more. Men are afflicted with prostate cancer at roughly equivalent rates, and less than half as much $$$ is devoted to it. Woman are by government definition a protected class. Show me the fallacy of any of those statements.

I think that more needs to be done for all cancers…it’s not a damned contest.

Where is this government definition? In what document? Why should we have to back up something you said…you give us the proof..geez

And another thing! What makes you think he has to prove any of his statements are true? It’s up to you to prove they’re NOT true because his credibility and track record for being right is untouchable!

I swear, why do they even let girls into this club?!

    kootch..

women make significantly less than men do

women are far more likely to be the victims of violent assault than men are

women are far more likely to be the head of single family households

women are far more likely than men to spend their golden years in poverty..

would you like me to go on?

Feminist is a descriptive word with many definitions.

Hello, women and men should be “equal” regarding many decisions. But there are differences. and biology is part of it.

I saw a study that 20 something women now make more than men in that age group. There are discrepancies for other age groups.

In divorces women generally get custody. The precedence for children to go to the female is weighted very heavily in favor of the females. I might add for some very good reasons. There are a variety of reasons, good and not so good. And there are gender stereotypes at issue with the courts decisions too. Justice is not blind to sexuality either.

I am all for women earning more than me and my fellow males. I can attest that the domestic engineer with children works harder than most people who work in jobs elsewhere from home.

Some feminist thought is trying to make kids, mainly little boys, more gender neutral. Fortunately, like Jurassic Park, nature usually finds a way and little boys will be little boys.

Ironically enough, so called feminists really dislike independent conservative women like Sarah Palin. Sometimes I think the word feminist only applies to women who are pro-choice. But that remains to be seen.

All I can say is that men and women are different and we should celebrate the differences. Fair treatment should be applied to all. But as far as I can tell most men are not trying to change women to be more masculine.

These forums just make me grumpy. What are you trying to prove? I’ve been at position for 12 years now. And guess what, I succeed. W/o complaining. And I’m a chick in construction management. And i am succesful. stop playing the women card and prove yourself. do i make what my peers make (mostly men – yup). Is there sexism? certainly. until you prove your are more than capable. Rosie the rivetor doesn’t need whining, nor do I.

I should go back and edit the grammar of my previous post – but in the spirit of the EPA, there are tons of kick ass womens spirits that enabled my position. I suppose I should say, I don’t need a constitutional ammedment to make me successful. I earned that on my own.

    prove it, rich.

asking boys and men to respect the women around them is not making them “gender neutral,” despite what conservative blowhards – like limbaugh – think.

but i can see why feminists threaten their sensibilities, such as they are.

and i think that the number of wives a guy has in his lifetime is inversely proportional to the amount of respect he has for women. (what’s limbaugh on now? four?)

This forum made me think of this song:

Harmonic, I’m taking your words at face value when I ask this: If you were a man, would you have to “prove your are more than capable”? Because it seems to me that if all things were equal, you’d only have to prove you were capable of doing your job, not excelling at it, to earn “equal” footing with your male coworkers.

Generally speaking, I would love to see ANY of the generalizations thrown out in this thread backed up with references. But then, statistics show that statistics can be manipulated to support whatever viewpoint you choose to hold. Here’s some interesting food for thought on this issue that I happened to run across recently: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/sep/18/boys-girls-gender-gap

Evvverrrry single day herongrrl… every single day. Yep, men have known that for years… proving you are more capable is how you get to be a project manager… regardless of gender. Work is not a love fest of capability….it’s a competitive arena…and “better” means ya ask for more at the table. Mediocrity…is being capable.. excelling is preferred. Maybe that is part of the wage gap? A foreign concept to union and government workers.. And redblack as much as I hate to say it to you…. yes indeed there is a feminization of boys… it’s the “hot” issue…. how to get men to be men again. In that, that includes, not hitting women, supporting your children, etc…

So, kootch, are you saying that feminists/feminism are the root cause of abusive men and deadbeat “dads”?

Nope I did not say that. I don’t like deadbeat dads as a matter of course. You sire em’ you got some obligations. Let’s not pretend there are no abusive women either. The methods and means may vary but the population is not in short supply. Spousal abuse by women is underreported.

“Between 600,000 and 6 million women are victims of domestic violence each year, and between 100,000 and 6 million men, depending on the type of survey used to obtain the data. But you know the drill.. arrest the man.”

    Or

“Surveys find that men and women assault one another and strike the first blow at approximately equal rates.

(Archer, J. (2000). Sex differences in aggression between heterosexual partners: A meta-analytic review”

As i recall it.. dads are the ones that teach their sons by example and by the man code, how to treat women. Ya can take a shot but never return it. So said mine, They also, as importantly, teach their daughters what is reasonable treatment to accept. The proof? Again the stats… dads don’t let boyfriends who value their very existence to abuse their daughters. The incident of spousal abuse is highest where the offender is raised a single parent household.

The data …. how many emergency shelters are there for men? None?

The way I hear it, the “man code” also mandates not saying anything about it if a woman hits you. It’s only recently that woman-on-man domestic abuse (which I agree it vastly underreported) has even begun to be acknowledged to exist.

One need not be female to be a feminist. I’d consider myself a feminist in that I wholly support the notion of complete equality for women and understand that the most successful societies in the world (social, economic and otherwise) are those that hold an enlightened view of women.

Here is a copy of comment I posted on an online petition, calling for Clear Channel to cancel Limbaugh’s show, that pretty much sums up how I feel about the First Amendment:

The First Amendment is an inalienable, and invaluable Constitutional Right, and under normal circumstances should not be censored. However, Rush Limbaugh has made a mockery of the First Amendment, our Constitution in general, and our great Country by spewing his ignorant, hateful opinions over the National Airwaves. His opinions reach globally, he is an embarrassment to the United States, and makes us look like a Nation of ignorant, hateful people, in the minds of many in other Countries. It would be wonderful to be able to do as many Americans suggest–just ignore him–but, sadly, with so many of his listeners taking what he says as the gospel truth, and perpetrating the ignorant and hateful speech, much like verbal lemmings, I believe great harm is being inflicted on our Country.

A wheelchair bound person once told me a joke about physically disabled people too, but for me to repeat it would be crass, rude and socially unacceptable. I especially wouldn’t tell that joke in a public forum where it might offend someone. Not that being crass, rude, socially unacceptable or offensive seems to dawn on some people who continually blather on, no matter what. It’s up to the community of citizens to define what is crass, rude, socially unacceptable or offensive… and communities tend to do that when a line is crossed, as Rush is finding out.

Not to defend Rush Limbaugh’s statement or crass, insensitive statements in general, but personally, I’m glad to live in a country where the right to free speech still trumps people’s right to be offended. It seems a very slippery slope when we start trying to turn off people’s microphones simply because they’re unpopular and/or offensive to some. We unfortunately can’t have the best parts of free speech without the worst.

It’s worth remembering that a “community of citizens” once thought it was socially acceptable to keep women out of colleges, Jews out of country clubs, to relegate black people to separate bathrooms, and put homosexuals in jail.

Even the most fringe, abhorrent speech (like that of the Westboro Baptist Church, for instance) has a right to be spoken in America. If you don’t want to hear it then don’t listen. But you do yourself a disservice in trying to shutdown someone else’s right to free speech in the name of the tyranny of the majority.

If a community at large is upset by someone who offends in a public forum, they don’t have to shut the community defined offender down. You are correct that such an action would be tyranny. They can however exercise their right to refuse to patronize said offender’s sponsors… and that isn’t tyranny. That’s democratic capitalism.
